E-policing plan to extend to Kilkee

Kilrush area Garda Superintendent Gerry Wall is planning to extend E Business Watch to Kilkee.
Since mid-October Superintendent Wall has been encouraging Kilrush-based business people to e-mail him with any concerns they might have. In the coming months he is hoping to have a similar system operating in Kilkee. Kilrush Gardai are to liaise with Kilkee business people in the near future before putting the programme in place.
“Members of the business community can contact the Superintendent’s office with their concerns by e-mailing it,” Superintendent Wall explained.
“A garda is then assigned to the task and they are notified by e-mail who the garda is. We used this with great success up in the Dublin North Central division. Hundreds of businesses were using this as a way to communicate,” the Kilrush Superintendent said.
If the scheme is to take off in Kilrush and Kilkee, Superintendent Wall says that business people in both towns will have to buy into the idea.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Wall is also planning to introduce bicycle Garda patrols to Kilkee for the summer season. In recent weeks a cycle patrol has been visible in Kilrush.
“The pedal cyclists provide a wider scope of patrolling. They’re more visible and they provide a speedy response in a rural area where oftentimes a patrol car has to cover great distances,” he said.
Currently just one bicycle patrol operates in Kilrush but Superintendent Wall is hoping to increase that figure.
“I’ll definitely push very, very hard to get another bicycle here if not two. I’ll have them in Kilkee either way. If I’ve to cycle it myself I’ll do it,” Superintendent Wall concluded.
