Drop of €60,000 in price of site

CLARE County Council took steps to sell a site in Lisdoonvarna this week for a quarter of the price the local authority was offered for it four years ago.

The site at Rathbaun, Lisdoonvarna, measures just over one acre and was acquired by the council under the Derelict Sites Act “some years ago”.
No objections to the sale were raised at a meeting of North Clare Electoral Area councillors and it will now go before the next meeting of the county’s local authority in October for full ratification.
The Ennistymon area councillors cleared the way for the site, with “the ruins of a house” on it, to be sold and it emerged that an offer of €22,000 was received on the site. This is a drop of €60,000 from the bid of €81,000 that it achieved at public auction in 2007. However, the prospective buyer did not continue with the purchase at that time.
A Clare County Council official could not confirm at the meeting if the new offer came from the 2007 bidder.
The property has been on the market since May and according to the council, it “will not be at a loss” if the property is sold for €22,000.
