Drink a cuppa in aid of Cahercalla hospice

With Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning fast approaching on September 15, the Clare Hospice Service at Cahercalla has appealed to the people of Clare to support their local hospice service over a cup of coffee.
The service at Cahercalla began in the early ’80s with just one bed in the NURSING HOme but responding to current demands, it is now delivered in a state-of-the-art purpose built 19 bed unit. The cost per anum to fund one hospice bed exceeds €75,000 and even allowing for the HSE funding, there is still a shortfall of in excess of €400,000 per annum.
Mary Maloney, fundraising manager at Cahercalla said, “We are very dependent on the funds raised through Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Community support is the backbone of our local service and is absolutely essential, particularly in this difficult economic climate.
“Without public support and contributions, the hospice service would struggle to deliver the care, comfort and dignity that families require at the most vulnerable time in their lives. We would appeal to the community to, once again, support our coffee morning on September 15 by either hosting a coffee morning or supporting an event that is already taking place. It’s not only a great opportunity to get together with friends, families, colleagues over a cup of coffee but it also raises vital funds for your local hospice service,” she said.
Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning is an all-island fundraising event. Now in its 18th year, the event raises vital funds each year for local hospice care services all over Ireland.
People in workplaces, homes and local organisations across Ireland are being asked to hold a coffee morning and to collect €2 for each cup of Bewley’s fresh coffee consumed. Complimentary fresh ground coffee packs will be provided to all coffee morning hosts. All money raised locally stays locally and goes directly back to fund local hospice care services.
Registration advice and details on how to get your special complimentary fresh ground coffee pack can be obtained by contacting Mary Maloney on 065 6821966.
