Deadline approaching for ’Champion Christmas window display competition

ENNIS businesses are being urged to dress to impress this Christmas – window dress that is. The deadline for taking part in the annual Clare Champion Christmas window display competition is coming up fast and local business and shop owners are being encouraged to get into the spirit of the season by taking part.

Already, there has been a lot of interest in the competition, which every year aims to brighten the town and create a festive atmosphere in the weeks coming up to Christmas. The competition is open to all shops and businesses in Ennis.

The deadline for windows to be dressed for this year’s competition is Thursday, December 6. Judging will take place from Friday, December 7 to Tuesday, December 11.

This year’s theme is ’Twas the Night Before Christmas and according to Shelly Galvin, director of The Clare Champion, this opens up a wealth of possibilities when it comes to decorating.

“We are looking forward to seeing lots of creative entries for this year’s competition taking the theme ’Twas the Night Before Christmas as inspiration. With this theme, there is just so much that can be done and already we’ve seen lots of great windows in Ennis,” she said.

“Every year, businesses throughout Ennis make a real effort when it comes to decorating their windows for the competition. The standard is always so high each and every year and we are urging businesses to once again come on board and showcase what is so special about the town. As well as making the town centre look great, this is also about promoting shopping locally. We want to encourage people to come into Ennis in the weeks coming up to Christmas, shop local, think local and keep jobs in the local economy.”

If helping create a festive atmosphere and boost business in the town isn’t enough, local shops and businesses have an added incentive to get involved. There are three prizes up for grabs in the competition, with first prize being an amazing €1,000 advertising voucher for The Clare Champion. Second prize is a €600 advertising voucher and third prize a €400 advertising voucher.

Businesses can decorate as many windows as they wish in keeping with the theme. On receipt of a completed entry form, a small card will be provided to businesses. This must be displayed on the shop/business window for the duration of the contest to assist judging.

The winners of the competition will be announced in The Clare Champion, which will be out on December 13.
