Czech photographer makes a splash at Kenny’s

Car Tourismo Banner

ORIGINALLY from the Czech Republic, George Karbus is now domiciled in Clare and his stunning photos of the Banner’s west coast will be exhibited at Kenny’s Gallery in Lahinch until August 15.
An enthusiastic surfer and free diver, he loves the sea, despite, or maybe because of his upbringing in a landlocked country.
“I always liked the sea and the ocean. We lived in Spain for a few years but it was a bit hot and dry there. We saw some pictures of the west of Ireland and we decided to come over,” he says of his arrival in this country.
Galway was the first port of call where he spent two years. Money saved from a job as a hotel porter went towards his first camera and his passion for photography began. He also found his way to Lahinch. “We were two years in Galway but we kept coming to Lahinch whenever we could so, eventually, we moved down.”
He says it is “very special” for him to have his work exhibited in Lahinch and says he is now very attached to this country. “In the Celtic Tiger years there were a lot of Czech people here to make money but they are gone now and the only ones left are those who love Ireland.”
George’s pictures are genuinely striking and they can be observed online at www.emerald-vision.com.
