Councillor demands signed NRA audit

KILRUSH town councillor Ian Lynch has demanded that the National Roads Authority (NRA) furnish the town council with a signed audited report relating to safety concerns, including visibility and pedestrian movement at a key link road and junction in the town.

Fahy’s Road links the Kilkee Road to the Ennis Road in Kilrush, while Limekiln Junction is located on the Ennis Road and has six roads feeding it. For several years, Kilrush town councillors have been campaigning for alterations to be made to the junction, to increase safety.

“The NRA has been down several times to look at Fahy’s Road and Limekiln Junction. I have yet to receive an audited report from them. When they’ve been down, they have refused to do the work that we’ve requested,” Councillor Lynch told Monday’s meeting.

“We’re here on the ground and we see what’s happening. I want them to do an audit report, sign their name to the bottom of it and tell us it’s safe and then stand up and be accountable. When we’re taken to court, we can say this safety officer did this report and said there was absolutely not problem with these two junctions in our town,” the Kilrush town councillor added.

“If they want to come to town and they want to tell us it’s safe, they should put it in writing and put their names to it,” he repeated.
