Cork 5-9  Clare  3-3

Cork showed their determination to retain the title of U-16A All-Ireland champions on Sunday in Newmarket with a comprehensive 5-9 to 3-3 defeat of Clare. Cork set the tone with their first point inside the opening minute of play and Linda Collins raised their first green flag in the fifth minute, which she pulled on the rebound following a save by Clare’s net minder, Pauline McNamara.
Clare were slow to settle into this game and Cork took advantage of the sluggishness to lead 2-3 to Clare’s single point by the 20th minute. Clodagh O’Halloran goaled for Clare soon after, before Cork added another 2-1 to their tally, leaving a half-time score at 4-4 to 1-1 in Cork’s favour.
Clare were much more settled in the second half but quick reflexes by Kayln Lee in the Cork goalmouth denied Lauren Guilfoyle and Clare had the perfect start to the restart. Cork however, regained superiority and had four unanswered points before Guilfoyle pointed a free for Clare.
Ali Quinlan added another free in the 18th minute. Cork’s Claire Shine raised their fifth green flag in the 20th minute before Clare had two goals from Aisling Corbett and O’Halloran. Cork had the final say when Niamh Byrne added another a point
