Minor C Semi Final

Banner 2-08 Corofin 2-04

The minor teams from Banner Camogie and Corofin Camogie clubs met for the second time in 4 weeks in the Minor C county semi-final in Fr. McNamara Park on Saturday evening, where spectators were treated to a wonderful display of skills from two evenly-matched sides. It was the Banner team and spectators who went home happiest, however, when their team prevailed on a score line of Banner 2-08 to Corofin’s 2-04.

The first half started evenly enough with 3 points from Corofin being matched by 3 from Banner’s Ciara Meehan (2) and Niamh Cassidy. After the water break, however, Corofin took control of the game and scored 2 quick goals. The Banner’s only reply was another Ciara Meehan point, leaving the score at half time Banner 0:04 Corofin 2:03.

The Banner started to come back in the third quarter, scoring 3 points from Caoimhe Meehan, Niamh Cassidy and the ever-present Ciara Meehan, to Corofin’s 1 point. Immediately after the water break, Banner’s Hannah McCormack finally broke through Corofin’s defence to score their first goal, which was followed a few minutes later by another from Ciara Meehan, putting the Banner girls ahead for the first time in the match. The final 8 minutes was end to end hurling with both teams leaving everything they had on the pitch and both sets of defenders having to work very hard. However, with 2 minutes to go Ciara Meehan popped another point over the bar giving the Banner a 4-point lead and driving them on to close out the game.

The final score was Banner 2:08 Corofin 2:04. The Banner will now go on to contest the Cup final, while Corofin will contest the Shield final.
