Ennis RFC U16s sweep Kerry opposition aside

ENNNIS U16s showed their mettle as they outscored Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne 29-0 in the second half of their Pan Munster Phase Two clash winning the game 39-14, writes Ivan Smyth. On what was an extremely windy day with the occasional hail shower, conditions were certainly not ideal. Ennis managed to adapt quickly and some physical carries from Caoimhin Enright and Michael Sweeney created gaps in the Dingle defense which Jacob Cassen Rennie exploited as he crashed over for Ennis’s first try.  The Kerry side struck back through their pack with some strong carries leading to a converted try. Both seams swapped scores again before half time with Nicolis Roos muscling his way over for the visitors and a quick reply from Dingle saw the half finish 14 – 10 in their favour.  Ennis started the second half just like the first with Seán Queally and Odhrán Flynn leading a very hard working pack around the field constantly stretching the Dingle defense. CAMOGIE: Coláiste Muire storm into Munster decider

Munster Senior B Post-Primary Schools Camogie Championship Semi-Final Coláiste Muire, Ennis 4-19 Laurel Hill (Limerick) 2-7 COLÁISTE Muire powered into a Munster Senior B decider following a commanding victory over Laurel Hill in a floodlit John O’Sullivan Park, Ennis this evening, reports Eoin Brennan. Two years after falling at the final hurdle of the provincial junior C equivalent, the Ennis school demonstrated the significant strides made in the intervening period when leading from start to finish in impressive fashion. An outstanding central quintet of Tierna Hegarty, Ellen Casey, Aisling Moloney, Emily Costelloe and Emma Considine were greatly aided by Hannah Doyle and Mary Hanrahan as Coláiste Muire moved incrementally through the gears. Firing the first five points, the home side were pegged back by a scrambled goal for Jayne Meaney just before the water break at 0-6 to 1-0, a score that would be wiped out when Emma Considine cooly dispatched a 19th minute penalty to the left corner after …

Clare-born trainer’s star performer joins Willie Mullins

RICHARD O’Brien’s recent impressive Naas bumper winner, Impulsive Dancer, has been sold to join Champion trainer Willie Mullins’ all-conquering Clusutton, County Carlow stable. The son of Dragon Pulse really caught the eye when making a winning debut for his Ballingarry, County Limerick-based trainer at the Kildare track just two days into the New Year. Sent off a 15/2 shot on that occasion, Eoin O’Brien’s mount fairly motored up the home straight in what appeared a hotly-contested affair, when slamming Gordon Elliott’s highly-regarded 13/8 favourite, Douglas Dc, by an effortless eight lengths. That display was always going to attract attention and earlier this week Kilmaley-born O’Brien confirmed Impulsive Dancer has joined the high-profile Mullins camp. 🗣 “It’s always mixed emotions when a horse of his calibre leaves the yard, but this is the business we’re in." Richard O’Brien on the sale of Impulsive Dancer 👇 — Racing TV (@RacingTV) January 11, 2022 He said: “Bloodstock agent, Anthony Bromley, has purchased impulsive …

O’Neill normally competes in 800m events but she moved outside her comfort zone last year as she was part of the Providence team that travelled to Florida to compete at the 2021 NCAA Women’s Cross Country Championship. HURLING: Ryan’s late goal snatches historic victory for St Joseph’s Tulla

A dramatic late goal from corner-back Dara Ryan broke the hearts of the Cork school and sent Tulla fans into raptures. In typical January weather, a sizeable crowd travelled from East Clare for the tie. The opening action was evenly balanced with Seán Withycombe (3) and Eoin O’Leary (2) converting frees for their respective sides with Fionn Hickey raising a white flag in between two Christian Brothers College points. For the next five minutes, the game ebbed and flowed with free takers on both sides finding their range. However, the Cork team controlled the second quarter, outscoring St Joseph’s Tulla 1-5 to 0-1. CAMOGIE: Rodgers’ goal-den strike gives Scariff-Ogonnelloe final fever

Munster Senior Club Camogie Championship Semi-Final Scariff-Ogonnelloe 1-8 Inniscarra 0-8 SCARIFF-Ogonnelloe’s quest for Munster glory will see another day out after an unbelievable showing of heart commitment and determination in Cork this afternoon, reports Derek Dormer. This game was not for the purists as conditions dictated that it would be a war of attrition rather than a free flowing end-to-end spectacle. Inniscarra started the better of the two teams and with a huge wind and playing down a hill in the opening half, they raced into a four point lead with star forward Joanne Casey wreaking havoc. Similar to the county final replay against Truagh-Clonlara, Scariff-Ogonnelloe refused to panic and dug deep showing huge character. They would in fact keep Inniscarra scoreless for the next 32 minutes. However, in that opening quarter they were in desperate need of a score and what an opening score they got – a green flag in the 11th minute courtesy of an Alva Rodgers …
