High-flying Cratloe have too much for St Patrick’s

Cratloe 0-12  St Patrick’s 0-6   HIGH-flying Cratloe have presented Munster Council chiefs with an unexpected fixtures headache after their intermediate footballers overcame the handicap of an early sending off to completely outclass St Patrick’s, Limerick, in the second half of this fiercely contested provincial opening tie. Cratloe’s senior hurlers are this week gearing up for a tilt against Waterford champions Ballygunner in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship following their last-gasp win over reigning champions Clonlara in the decider on Sunday, November 1.With at least 10 dual stars in contention for a starting place on both teams, Cratloe will be anxious to ensure there is an adequate rest period between both games.  Four years ago, Cratloe suffered a drubbing when they travelled to the backyard of Cork champions Roscarbury in the first round of the provincial intermediate football series. Powerful Crusheen reach Clare Champion Cup final

Crusheen 3-9  Broadford 1-4 CRUSHEEN qualified for their second senior final of the season when they defeated Broadford at Clarecastle on Saturday to set up a meeting with title-holders, Clonlara in the Clare Champion Cup final (senior hurling league). A powerful first-half performance, which saw them go 2-7 to 0-0 ahead, laid the foundations for this latest victory for Crusheen and the win means that their season will continue for at least another two weeks.On Saturday, they return to Clarecastle to replay the senior B final with O’Callaghan’s Mills and a week later, they will face Clonlara in the league decider.Last Saturday’s game was played in atrocious weather conditions but the pitch was in remarkably good condition despite the rain. The game was switched to Clarecastle after the pitch at Shannon was ruled to be unavailable, due to the heavy rainfall of Saturday night.The fact that Crusheen had a competitive game a week earlier, when they drew with O’Callaghan’s Mills …

Husband and wife team in Ennis

FOR the first time in the history of the club, Ennis Golf Club is to have a husband and wife as captains in the same season.Mike and Phil Butler are the new vice-captains of the club, positions they will hold in 2010 and they will lead the club in 2011. Mike, a well-known traditional musician, has served on the committee in recent years and filled the role of club secretary. The announcement was made at a function in the club on Thursday evening last. The winners of the turkey fourball at Ennis on Sunday were Colm Daly and Damian Gilligan with 47-points. They had two to spare over Noel Kenny and Sean Rynne with third spot filled by Tom Glynn and Padraig McNicholas on 44-points. the same score was returned by Paschal Phelan and Jason Woods, who were in fourth spot.
