Richness of colour with Courthouse Gallery show

THE upcoming exhibition exhibition Collins.Harper.Lane at the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon, will allow lovers of art to indulge in a richness of colour and presence over the coming weeks.Artists John Collins, Charles Harper and John Lane are about to present a selection of brand-new works for the very first time to the public in the exhibition which runs from October 16 to November 11. Travelling from America’s east coast to officially open proceedings is New York artist Doris Staal. She has spent almost every summer sketching and painting along the Irish western coastline and is delighted to return in this official capacity to open the show. She a lecturer at the National Academy and School of Fine Arts, New York City which is situated across the road from The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fifth Avenue. Trade awards for North Clare men

TWO North Clare men will represent Ireland in what has been dubbed the Olympics for tradespeople.Shane Stringer from Doolin and Gerard O’Loughlin from Inagh have both been selected to compete at the 2010 World Skills Competition in London.

New half marathon to boost local economy

THE North Clare economy will receive a welcome boost this weekend as more than 600 participants take part in the inaugural Run Cliffs of Moher Half Marathon.The race is expected to generate tens of thousands of euro for businesses in the area, while charities St Vincent De Paul, Special Olympics Ireland and Clare Crusaders will also benefit directly from it. Numerous other charities will benefit from participants’ fundraising.“We have been working with the Clare Sports Partnership and the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre on the event for about the last 16 months. Also, we have been liaising with the three charities, Clare Crusaders, which is bringing 50 runners and walkers on the day; Special Olympics Ireland, which is bringing 30 and St Vincent De Paul, which also has a group taking part. The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre has five participants and they will be wearing their Vote for the Cliffs in the New 7 Wonders of Nature t-shirts. There …

Happy couple say I do, I do, I do, I do

Two newlyweds aiming to break the world record for the most married couple in six months took to North Clare last weekend, where they added another four vow renewals to their total tally. Mark and Denise Duffield-Thomas, from the UK and Australia, were the winners of the Ultimate Job in Ireland, which saw them land the ultimate dream job in May 2010. It had a top prize of six months of luxury travel around the globe, checking out the best places in the world to get married and to honeymoon in.Since they started their job, Mark and Denise have been to the US, Kenya, Jordan, Zanzibar, Mauritius, Malta, Spain, London and travelled extensively across Ireland. They’ll conclude their task in November with the last trip to Denise’s home country, Australia.
