Shining a light of hope

  Joan Freeman, founder and CEO of suicide crisis centre Pieta House, was in Ennis on Thursday last to launch the third annual Darkness into Light event. Ennis is one of 20 locations this year hosting Darkness into Light, a unique 5km walk/run, which begins in darkness at 4am and ends as dawn is breaking. It will take place on Saturday, May 11 at Lees Road and organisers are hoping for a turnout of several thousand people. Throwing their weight behind the campaign are the Clare hurlers, who were represented at the launch by manager, Davy Fitzgerald. “Last year’s Darkness into Light event in Ennis was one of the biggest in the country and I know we can grow it even more this year. Milk Market minds to present Ennis plan

THE architects behind the success of Limerick’s re-vamped Milk Market are to present a feasibility report on the development of Ennis’ market to the town council. The local authority have engaged Healy Partners, who were behind the covering of the market in Limerick, to make it an all-weather facility and to look at the potential in Ennis. The meeting also heard that the installation of electrical points at the Farmer’s Market will be completed shortly.

Appy days at Ennis National School

ENNIS National School has just launched its mobile app, making it one of the first schools in the country to do so. A survey at the school last winter revealed that almost 90% of families owned a smartphone or tablet of some sort and it was decided an app would be a quick and efficient means of communication between school and home. The app was launched on Monday at the school by past pupil and well-known referee, Rory Hickey.

Festival reveals secrets of uncovering history

The largest genealogy event scheduled to take place during The Gathering Ireland 2013 will be held in Ennis next week. The Gathering the Scattering festival, hosted by the Clare Roots Society will take place from Tuesday until April 6 in the Temple Gate Hotel and will be addressed by leading figures in the field of tracing family histories and genealogy.
