A CLARE nursing home has scooped a major prize at the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2012, in association with Homecare Medical Supplies.

THE Banner County’s standing as the “spiritual home” of lifesaving in Ireland was acknowledged this week as a number of Clare people, and The Clare Champion, were honoured at Irish Water Safety’s national awards ceremony.

WHILE proposals on the separation of Shannon from the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) went before Cabinet on Tuesday, no public announcement offering details of the split has been made as yet.  

AFTER eight years of a rather loveless marriage to the DAA, Shannon is set to be given back its independence with details of the separation are due in the next few days.

The fact that controversy is once again enveloping the Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly, should be ringing alarm bells in the Fine Gael party. Why he has still managed to hold on to his position shows a severe lack of judgement on the part of the leadership as the credibility of the coalition is suffering as a result. Labour is backing the minister but doubtless more for the sake of itself, rather than the country or the voters.
