GALLERY: Banner plan for the future as they celebrate wins

180 players and supporters were present at the Hotel Woodstock on Friday evening for the dinner dance social held by the Banner GAA club, reports Michael O’Connor. On the night they were celebrating huge progress on and off the field. MC for the night Liam Reilly welcomed one and all to the event in which Junior B hurling championship medals from 2020, Junior A football championship medals from 2021, U-21C hurling medals from 2021 and several league titles that were won also saw medal presentations. The 2021 minor B football title winning squad will receive their medals soon. The various guests of honour present included vice-chairperson of Clare GAA Michael O’Connor, former Clare senior hurling manager Donal Moloney and current Clare senior football manager Colm Collins. GALLERY: Avenue keep cup double hopes alive

Avenue United struck twice in a three minute spell to book their place in the Last 16 of the Munster Junior Cup. With the sides deadlocked at 1-1 after 75 minutes of action, Philip Talty and Dylan Casey’s goals ensured that Clare would be represented in the Last 16 of the competition. Avenue named an unchanged side from the one that beat Yellowstone in the FAI Junior Cup the weekend prior. They looked the sharper side in the opening exchanges, dominating possession and territory although they found Youghal a tough side to break down. That was until the half hour mark when Thomas Hehir opened the scoring with a well taken goal. However, despite their dominance, Youghal, who entered the game as firm underdogs, struck back to level the contest. SCARIFF-Ogonelloe’s dreams of All-Ireland glory came to an end in difficult conditions in Clonmel this afternoon. The east Clare combo had to play second fiddle to a powerful Oulart The Ballagh outfit who looked every inch the All-Ireland champions they are. The final score on the day was 3-11 to 0-02, but the east Clare women can still look back with pride on a terrific season that has seen them bag county and provincial honours.

GALLERY: Davy Fitz opens new Broadford sensory playground

RECREATIONAL facilities in Broadford have received a major boost thanks to the provision of a new sensory playground costing an estimated €105,000, writes Dan Danaher. While the main beneficiaries will be children at Broadford and Kilbane National School, it can also be used by the local community outside school hours. With six children with Autism in a special class, this playground facilitates the sensory processing needs of student in the ASD unit and others who have issues in mainstream classes. Up to €30,000 was raised locally by parents and the local community, apart from a €10,000 donation from EI Electronics Shannon, managing director, Mick Guinee. In the region of 75% of the money came from the school’s own finances. It is located next to the astro turf facility that cost €85,000 two years ago that was funded through a Chlár grant and €30,000 from the board of management. GALLERY: Ennistymon CBS secure Munster schools double

ENNISTYMON CBS secured an excellent Munster schools double at UL this Saturday with a comfortable dismissal of Presentation Ballingarry. The north Clare side defeated their Tipperary opponents 2-21 to 1-7, adding the hurling title to the football one they took last weekend. John Kelly was on hand for the Clare Champion to record the victory.

GALLERY: Tulla advance as rivals draw in first division

Tulla United’s hopes of securing the First Division crown and promotion to the Premier Division received a huge boost when they overcame Moher Celtic in a tight encounter. The winners enjoyed the perfect start when Darragh Murphy’s industry gave Conor Whelan a goalscoring opportunity which was duly taken as Tulla struck first after five minutes. Their second goal came before the break with Fionn Ryan sending James Wallace in behind the Moher defence before Wallace powered through and rounded Moher goalkeeper Shane Keane before his left footed strike caused the net to bulge. Both sides had chances in a competitive second half with Tulla ‘keeper it took a couple of Simon Kilker needing to be on form to keep his side’s lead intact. GALLERY: Newmarket U17s progress to FAI Cup quarters

Newmarket Celtic progressed to the quarter finals of the U17 FAI Centenary Cup but needed extra time to overcome a stubborn Letterkenny Rovers FC outfit, writes Ivan Smyth. The sides could not be separated inside the 90 minutes with the scores level at 1-1. Che Sheedy found the net for Newmarket but a goal from Letterkenny’s Sam Harvey meant these sides were deadlocked when the full time whistle blew. In a tense extra time, Newmarket Celtic held their nerve as Adam Cusack struck the all important goal to help the home side power through to the quarter finals. It was tough luck on a Letterkenny side that proved difficult opposition but Newmarket found the quality needed to prevail. Newmarket now enjoy home advantage once more as they face Corduff FC in the quarter finals.
