Brennan travels through Space and Time with new exhibition

NEWMARKET-on-Fergus artist Philip Brennan has many feathers in his cap and as he prepares to launch his latest exhibition of paintings he adds yet another feather to his cap, that of songwriting.

The artist, ornithologist, singer, published author and teacher joins Dublin artist Cliona Fox this week as they open their joint exhibition Time and Space at the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon on Friday at 5pm.
This has been a busy year for the Clare Road man. After showing some of his work at the Florence Biennale international exhibition in Italy, Philip was back exhibiting and singing at the Cultúrlann Sweeney in Kilkee in June. He  had one of his works presented on behalf the county to President Michael D Higgins on his recent visit to Clare. In between studio work and field sketching in the Burren this summer, he also qualified at the Clare and Dungarvan Fleadhanna Ceoil to represent Munster in the All-Ireland Fleadh in Cavan with his newly composed song Inch Bridge.
Philip’s segment of the exhibition Time and Space is a taster of a solo show he’s preparing for 2013. As usual, Philip’s obsession with his native county is to the fore in the exhibition. His trademark scatter of themes is also there. Those visiting the exhibit will be greeted by paintings of wildlife, storms, singers, geology, astronomy, seasons, history and archaeology.
Any reader of his books of paintings and stories, Clare and Wanderings, will be familiar with this diversity of themes. Philip hopes people will also see a progression of technique and interpretation in the collection.
The exhibition runs until September 26 and there is an opportunity to meet with the artists on the opening evening this Friday at 4pm.
All are welcome and the opening hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 12 noon to 5pm.
