Bord na nÓg conventions reconvene next week

Bord na nÓg Péil convention will re-convene on Tuesday, January 4, to elect an executive for 2011 and to debate the eight motions that have been submitted. Forty eight hours later their hurling counterparts will re-convene to engage in a similar exercise.

The initial meetings of both boards adjourned after dealing with the reports from the various officers. This was to allow county convention debate a motion from Scariff which called for the unification of Bord na nÓg football and hurling.
After this motion was comprehensively beaten last week, county chairman Michael O’Neill directed that both bodies reconvene and complete their business, the election of officers and debate on the motions.
In Bord na nÓg Péil, outgoing chairman Billy Archbold, who has filled the position for the past four years, is the only nominee. However, the board will have a new vice chairman, secretary, treasurer and PRO.
Treasurer Joey O’Connell is not seeking re-election while Joe Kelly (vice-chairman), Anne Hayes (secretary) and Liam Woulfe (PRO) have all completed five years in those posts and must, according to rule, step down.
Seán Lyons (Doora-Barefield) and John Smith (Doonbeg) are nominated for the post of vice chairman. Liam Woulfe (Shannon Gaels) and Niamh Madigan (Kilrush) are nominated for the post of secretary while Joe Kelly (Wolfe Tones) and John Smith (Doonbeg) are nominated for the position of treasurer. Anne Hayes (Lissycasey) is the only nominee for the position of PRO.
Among the motions listed is one from Shannon Gaels asking that, “prior to structures for 2011, Bord na nÓg will hold a forum involving all stake holders in underage football in the county”.
“This forum would involve participation of county minor and senior boards, representatives of all clubs, games development officers, coaches of development groups and any other group deemed necessary.
“The meeting should be chaired by an independent facilitator and a blueprint for underage structure for a five-year period should evolve from this process”.
There will be a new chairman, secretary and treasurer for Bord na nÓg hurling as the outgoing Seán O’Halloran (chairman), Rosaleen Monaghan (secretary) and Gerry Lynch (treasurer) have stepped down having completed their five year terms.
Clarecastle’s Martin Reynolds is the only nominee for chairman while Michael Daly (Feakle) is the only nominee for vice-chairman. Daly is also nominated for the post of secretary as is the outgoing assistant secretary John O’Looney (Newmarket). O’Looney is the only nominee for the post of assistant secretary.
Neil O’Brien, secretary of the O’Callaghan’s Mills club, is the only nominee for the post of treasurer.
Outgoing public relations officer, Sixmilebridge’s Tom Sheehan is unopposed for the position while no nominations were received for the position of assistant treasurer.
