The body of a young man has been recovered from the River Shannon in Killaloe on Wednesday evening following a major multi-agency search and recovery operation.

It is understood a 19 year-old man from Limerick City fell from a jet-ski into the water, drifted for a while and then went underwater close to the ESB Mill Yard near an area known locally as Between the Waters.
There are unconfirmed reports that other people on the jet-ski managed to swim ashore to safety.
The young man was recovered by the Killaloe Ballina Search and Recovery Dive Unit at 6.45pm and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following early enquiries, An Garda Síochána are currently treating this matter as a tragic accident.
Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked at 5.05pm on Wednesday afternoon and launched two vessels -a D-class and Rib in the lake at around 5.25pm.
Two ambulances from the National Ambulance Service arrived to the incident – one remained Between the Waters and the other vehicle was stationed near Ballina Riverside Park for a period of time.
The Rescue 115 helicopter from Shannon was also tasked and circled the lake to assist with the emergency operation.

The Clare Fire and Rescue Service was tasked at 5.08pm and arrived with a fire tender and fire truck manned by seven members who stabilised an area for emergency services to operate Between the Waters.
Members of the Fire Service and Coast Guard commenced a search of the Tipperary and Clare banks of the river but were unable to detect any sighting of the body at this stage.
Vehicular access was restricted by a member of the Clare Fire and Rescue Service Between the Waters near the traffic lights.
Family members and friends of the deceased gathered in a small group in the car parking area of Between the Waters waiting for official confirmation of their worst fears.
Once it was confirmed the body of the deceased man was recovered, the Clare Fire and Rescue Service was stood down at around 8pm.
Members from Killaloe Gardai were also on the scene helping emergency services to try and locate the body.
The body of the deceased was removed by an undertaker to University Hospital Limerick at 9.06pm where it is expected a post mortem will be held at a later stage.

A large group of onlookers watched the rescue operation unfold from both sides of the bridge.

Sizzling temperatures in Killaloe and Ballina had brought a large group of locals and visitors to the area on Wednesday afternoon.

A palpable sense of shock descended on the twin communities when news of the tragedy broke.
