Best swimmer award for Cahill

Bernard Cahill won the award for the best male swimmer of the championship at the Munster long course swimming championships, which were held recently at the University of Limerick Sports Arena. Twelve clubs took part in the two-day event, which saw the Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club being well represented, with a total of 39 swimmers achieving the qualifying times to participate in the event.

Bernard Cahill won the best male swimmer award.Cahill was by far the best swimmer for the club and he set a number of personal best times on his way to winning a total of seven medals. His tally included a gold medal in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4.21.60, five silver medals in the 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 200m and 400m individual medley. He finished it out with a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle.
Colm Fitzgerald just missed out on winning a gold medal by .50s in the 50m freestyle but did set a personal best of 25.88 in winning the silver medal. Colm also won silver medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, setting personal best in both events. Norma Cahill swam to a gold medal in the 800m freestyle in a time of 10:05.28. Conor Rooney paced himself well in accomplishing a 23-second personal best swim in the 1,500m freestyle. Conor finished in a time of 18:24.95 and earned the bronze medal.
There were quite a few swimmers making it into the finals of their respective events and many who achieved personal best times. They were Mary Allan, Laura Bergin, Sarah Broderick, Imogen Cotter, Emma Casey, Ciara Gleeson, Caoimhe Gowran, Maebh Hogan, Siobhán McGrath, Kate Molan, Melissa Power, Ciara Ryan, Emily Ryan, Katie Shannon, Ailbhe Tuohy, Niamh Willis, Aisling Wolf, Declan Bredin, Brian Coyne, Donough Cronin, Mark Eisenberg, Darragh Glavin, Patrick Hogan, Peter Lawler, Adam McEvoy, Hugh McMahon, Colm McNamara, Michael Moriarty, Ultan O’Brien, Donnchadh O’Sullivan, Stephen Rooney, Dylan Ryan, Nicolas Welaratne, Oliver Welaratne and Charlie Whyatt.
The event also saw two swimmers, Adam McEvoy and Stephen Rooney, achieve their Munster Developmental Squad times.
