Benefactor to pay Megan’s medical costs

AN anonymous donor has offered to pay all of the medical treatment costs for three-and-a-half-year-old Megan Malone, who has been flown to New York for treatment for a rare form of cancer.
The little girl, who has touched the hearts of the people of Clare, was diagnosed last October with a highly malignant brain tumour as well as multiple smaller tumours in her brain.
It is understood that the medical bills will run to hundreds of thousands of euro and a major fundraising campaign was launched last month to help pay for Megan and her family to travel to America for the potentially life-saving treatment.
The generous benefactor has remained anonymous. However, the Megan Malone Trust have confirmed that the treatment costs for Megan in the US will be covered by a donor.
According to the Megan Malone Trust, “We have received confirmation that the treatment costs for Megan in the US will be covered by a third-party donor.
“A board of trustees has been appointed to manage all funds within the trust.
“We would like to thank everyone for the incredible generosity shown to date and for your continued support for Megan.”
Megan is from a well-known Clare family, being the grand-daughter of Michael John and Kay Malone from Ballyalla. Megan’s father John and mother Sheila live in Cork with the rest of their family, Chloe aged seven, Dylan aged five and baby Tristan.
According to Megan’s family in Clare, she has been responding well to treatment in the US. A number of fundraising events have been launched to raise money for Megan, including a recent benefit night in Ennis.
Sporting legends including Peter Clohessey, Marcus Horan, Donnacha Walsh, William Kirby, Brian Whelahan, Daithí Regan, Christy Heffernan and Brendan Cummins showed their support by making an appearance. More than €11,000 was raised through auction, with more raised from ticket sales and a raffle.
