Banner U-14s on parade in London

THE Banner minor GAA club took their U-14 hurling team to London last week and participated in the St Patrick’s Day parade. The trip to London came about following The Banner’s hosting of the London team during Féile na nGael 2010. The team met on Friday morning and flew to London, where they renewed acquaintances at the London club’s Ruislip headquarters.
Following a quick training spin, they headed across London where they were treated to a tour of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and museum. On returning to Ruislip, they met with their host families and renewed acquaintances from Féile.
On Saturday morning, the highlight was the hurling at the Tír Connell Gael’s ground in nearby Greenford. James Casey captained the side in a well-contested match. While the scoreline favoured the Banner the last 10 minutes proved most entertaining, enjoyed by players and spectators alike. Lunch and presentations followed and the Banner’s Daire Walsh was awarded a well-deserved man-of-the-match trophy.
The highlight of the afternoon’s schedule was attending the Queen’s Park Rangers v Crystal Palace league match where QPR won on a 2-1 scoreline.
The main reason for the trip was to march in the London St Patrick’s Day parade, which took place on Sunday.
A brief walking tour of Westminster followed before it was time to head for the airport and the return journey to Clare.
