AN Art for Haiti fundraising event will take place in Quin on Tuesday when the local community is hoping to generate funds to provide a paediatric hospital dispensary tent for the Sisters of St Joesph of Cluny in Haiti.
The event will take place at the Peaberry Green Café Bar, Quin from 9pm and will involve the auctioning of three paintings donated by a local artist. The fundraiser will also include live music. Also up for grabs on the night is a Chinese Tapestry donated by the local Chinese restaurant and prizes of photograph family portraits donated by Martin Murphy.
Proceeds raised will go towards the purchasing of a paediatric hospital dispensary tent which will be donated to the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny who have been in Haiti since 1864. They have 14 communities there presently and are involved in education, healthcare, women’s promotion and social development.
Quin’s public health nurse, Breda Kerin explains that the tent itself would help to provide vaccinations for children and much-needed medicine and aid.
“It was literally a village that they lost in Haiti, as the Sisters of St Joesph of Cluny, would have had a hospital, schools and these have now been lost. They had a large number of children under their care and we wanted to help them get their infrastructure back. Education and healthcare is their aim and they are trying to reconstruct that again. I sourced the idea of the tent and because Dr Orla Coyle is involved in fundraising in the Limerick regional hospital and because Haiti lost a huge number of children, we went with this idea of a paediatric tent. It’s a small gesture. We are hoping to source the tent and buy the tent ourselves. After we buy the tent, we’ll hand it over, probably at the end of the Lenten campaign,” Breda explained.
All are welcome to attend the event and tickets are available at the door.
