Appointment of new Shannon Group chairman is off

JUST hours after it was announced that businessman Aaron Forde would be the new chairman of the board of Shannon Group, it has sensationally emerged that the appointment will not proceed.

A Twitter account linked to Mr Forde has been deleted this evening and it is understood that the decision not to proceed with the appointment islinked to comments that were made on this account.

Shannon has been waiting for a number of months for the appointment, following the conclusion of Rose Hynes term.

In a statement tonight, the Department of Transport said, “The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has announced that he will not be proceeding with the appointment of Mr Aaron Forde as chairperson of Shannon Group. In a phone conversation this evening Mr Ryan indicated that Mr Forde’s use of social media was below the standard expected of the chairperson of a state board.

“This is an important time for Shannon Group which has to chart a way through the crisis caused by the pandemic and plan for recovery. The Department of Transport will work to appoint a new chairperson as quickly as possible.”
