In his final address as chairman of Clare GAA, Michael O’Neill said, “we may differ from time to time but we all strive for the same goals.”

“We must continue to work hard for this great association of ours that we are all part of. Thanks for the privilege of having me, a humble Ballyea man, as your chairman for the past five years.”

In a wide-ranging address he called on the clubs of Clare to support Shannon and the Mid-West region in whatever way possible. “We need to get it back to where is should be,” he said.

Commenting on the Gathering 2013, he stressed the importance of the event to the county and the country and said the GAA has a role to play.

On the question of dual players and the club v county issue, he said, “continuous work is needed to protest the clubs and this issue will not be resolved overnight. Last year’s fixtures blueprint needs to be given a chance to work.”

He outlined the up to date position with regard to the work at Caherlohan and told the delegates, it will be opening in May 2013. He confirmed that he will be continuing as chairman of that project for the coming year.

O’Neill said further development is required at Cusack Park.

He paid tribute to the Friends of Clare support group in Dublin and to the football supporters club in Clare and to the county team sponsor Pat O’Donnell.

He had a special word of thanks for former Cusack Park caretaker Martin Flanagan and also for Mary Coyle both of whom retired during the year. “They continue to give of their time voluntarily to Clare GAA,” he said.

Later, Syl O’Connor, Tom Burke and Des Crowe who all stepped down from the executive on Tuesday night having completed their terms as PRO, Irish and Culture officer and assistant secretary respectively, thanked the delegates and clubs for the support they received over the years.
