After one of their most successful seasons to date, Ennis Players will be launching their 2010/2011 season in the next few weeks. Having qualified for the first time for the RTÉ All-Ireland Drama finals held in Athlone in May and finishing a very respectable third, the group are looking forward to an even better season.
Last year, the group had a highly successful supper theatre at the Old Ground Hotel, Ennis over four nights in November where they staged two entertaining one-act plays to packed houses.
The spring brought their highly praised production of the classic Synge play, The Playboy of the Western World, which played to sell-out audiences at Glór over four nights. The production then took to the roads and competed at six drama festivals throughout the country culminating in its selection as one of nine plays to appear in Athlone.
Having recharged the batteries over the summer, the actors, production and backstage crew are now ready to launch into what will be a long season, according to PRO, Jackie Scanlan.
In association with the Drama League of Ireland and the Arts Council, Ennis Players will be hosting a workshop on The Silver Tassie in Glór on Saturday, September 11 with Druid’s literary manager, Thomas Conway.
Thomas has been with Druid since 2005 and has been the assistant director with Gary Hynes on the Druid Synge season and assistant director with Tom Murphy on his famed production of Bailegangaire. The workshop will take place on the day that Druid perform their acclaimed production of The Silver Tassie in Glór.
This season will also see Ennis Players hosting the annual general meeting of the Drama League of Ireland in Ennis at the Old Ground Hotel on October 23. Supper theatre will make a welcome return towards the end of November, also at the Old Ground.
New Players are always required for both on and off stage and Ennis Players would be delighted to hear from anyone with a love of amateur drama. For more information contact Ennis Players at 087 0641191.
