€5,000 council budget for grass cutting

Just over €5,000 is available for grass cutting in Kilkee 2012, which will allow for 10 cuts over the summer season.

At the May meeting of Kilkee Town Council, the members were provided with a schedule of works, following on from a query from Councillor Elaine Haugh Hayes.
In a written reply, town engineer Derek Troy gave the details. With regard to cleaning he stated, “Street cleaning in Kilkee is undertaken Monday to Friday all year round. For 2012, this consists of two Clare County Council staff and pickup trucks emptying the litter bins and sweeping the footpaths and roadways. For the months of May, June, July, August and September, street cleaning is also undertaken at weekends, which consists of two staff for two hours on both Saturday and Sunday morning. For the five summer months, beach cleaning and the opening, cleaning and closing of the public toilets will also be undertaken daily. All litter collected from streets and the beach is segregated where possible, to remove recyclable materials and transported to Lisdeen Waste transfer station, he said.”
With regard to painting he stated that staff “will undertake the painting of all the existing painted areas, including walls, steps, benches, shelters, along the beachfront area”. The work is to take place at times when staff resources are available and weather permits.
He said the budget for grass cutting was €5,100, which would allow for 10 cuts and he outlined areas where the cuts are to take place.
With regard to roadworks, he stated, “The L6077 Bog Road was included in the Clare County Council 2012 Restoration Improvement Grant. Following an engineering inspection and due to the deterioration of the condition of the road structure and the safety concerns raised, it was decided to also include the Dough Road (Brick Road) L6048 Clare County Council 2012 Restoration Improvement works. Both of these sections of roadworks were completed approximately two weeks ago. There are currently no other improvement roadworks proposed for Kilkee in 2012. Clare County Council will endeavour to maintain all roads as required, subject to resources being available,” he added.
