€3.5m needed to fund cystic fibrosis unit

The Clare branch of TLC4CF will be launched in the Queens Hotel, Ennis on Friday at 8 pm.

TLC4CF is a fundraising initiative formed by the Clare, Tipperary and Limerick branches of Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI) to help improve services, facilities and in turn improve lives for all adults living with cystic fibrosis (CF) in the Mid-West Region.
A number of Clare’s All-Ireland winning U-21 hurlers and lady footballers are expected to attend the Clare launch on Friday. The regional committee has set a target of €3.5m to help fund an adult cystic fibrosis centre in Limerick within three years.
A 90km fundraising cycle in north Clare on Saturday, October 10, will seek to raise some of the money required. The cycle will leave Corofin at 10am and will finish up in the north Clare village via Ennistymon, Lahinch, Liscannor, Doolin, Fanore and Ballyvaughan.
More than 120 guests, including Munster rugby players Marcus Horan and Alan Quinlan, attended the regional launch of TLC4CF on Monday.
Children born today with CF can expect to live a near normal, full and productive life, provided that the correct treatment facilities are in place.  Ireland has the highest prevalence of CF in the world as well as the most severe types. Despite this, Ireland has the poorest resources for CF patients in Europe.
The number of adults CF patients attending Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick is steadily increasing, as people living with CF are surviving longer. TLC4CF’s priority will be to significantly improve facilities in Limerick hospital and in particular to provide a CF out-patient clinic and nine high-specification en suite in-patient rooms for patients
Donations can be made directly through any AIB branch or online banking.  TLC4CF Bank Account: Allied Irish Bank, A/C No: 04310137; sort code 93-50-93.
TLC4CF is a branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI).
