Next Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27, owners of the Boghill Centre in Kilfenora, together with other members of Burren Ecotourism, plan to plant 20,000 trees as part of a nationwide initiative on land donated by the Boghill Centre.

One Million Trees in One Day is a charity, not-for-profit, cross-border, community and environmental initiative that will plant a million young native trees at different sites across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 24 hours.

The plan is to establish individual trees and woodlands in both rural and urban areas that will grow for many years and which will provide valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations.

From 12 noon on Friday to 12 noon on Saturday, volunteers will be planting the trees on 20 acres of ground donated by the Boghill Centre.

This late planting is possible because the trees have been kept in cold storage and will grow and thrive once planted.

Volunteers are being sought and will be asked to plant the young saplings (all native trees) with a spade in soil that has already been prepared.

Those who would like to volunteer should contact the Boghill Centre or Sonja O’Brien, boghill@eircom.net or obriensonja@gmail.com for more details or to commit some time to the project.
