Tulla to host fiddle feis


A FIDDLE Feis will take place at Cnoc na Gaoithe, the Tulla Comhaltas Cultural Centre, on Saturday, June 29.

It will be an open competition, with competitors from under 8 up to 20-years-old.

Fiddle players from anywhere in the world are welcome to enter and there are a selection of prizes on offer, including cups, trophies and medals for first, second and third places in each competition.
The Young Fiddler of East Clare competition is open to fiddle players from 17 to 20 years of age. Entrants must play two selections of music, with the emphasis on musicality, not technicality. First prize will be the Vincent Griffin Perpetual Cup and a cash bursary. Pre-entry is required and entries close on Friday, June 21 at 5pm.

First prize in the 14-16 age group is the Crimmins’ Perpetual Cup and a half scholarship to Meitheal Residential Summer School, which will run from July 22 to 26.
The 11-13 age group will be competing for the John Minogue’s Bar Perpetual Cup and a full week of workshops at Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy.

The 9-10 age group will be competing for the Custy Traditional Music Cup and three days of workshops at the Feakle Traditional Music Festival and workshops at the Tulla Trad Festival. The U-8 age group will receive plaques and medals.
Competitor’s age on the day applies to all competitions and entry on the day is acceptable for all competitions except the 17 to 20-year-old category.

The starting time for the U-8s is 2.30pm, for nine to 10-year-olds, it is 3pm; for 11-13 it is 3.30pm and for the 14-16 competition, it’s 4pm, with the young fiddler of the day at 4.30pm. Entries on the day should be made at least half an hour before the start of competition.
