NUI Galway rises in global stakes

NUI Galway has continued its rise in global ranking, as the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2016/2017 today (Wednesday) confirms the university’s position within the top tier of Irish universities. NUI Galway made a significant leap into the 201-250 range, compared to 351-400 in 2012. This is the second time within a short period that NUI Galway has continued its upward trajectory in global rankings, with QS world rankings published earlier this month, NUI Galway also saw a climb into the top 250 universities globally. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, now in their 13th year, apply rigorous standards, using global benchmarks across all university’s key missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The top 980 list represents 5 per cent of the world’s higher education institutions. UL ranked in world’s 150 young universities

The University of Limerick has been ranked within the top 150 of the 2016 Times Higher Education Young Universities of the World. The ‘150 Under 50’ ranking applies the same performance indicators as the overall THE World University Rankings, with young universities measured on their teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income. Welcoming the strong global position of the University of Limerick, Vice President Academic and Registrar Professor Paul McCutcheon said “This latest accolade comes during a period of increasing international recognition of the growing status of the University. We are widely recognised for the outstanding student experience we offer to all our students, the excellence of our research and the impact UL is making on our society and our economy. UL has also recently been ranked 139th out of 800 worldwide institutions based on an international outlook indicator.
