Brian Ború’s ancestral links with the JFK

MORE people from South-East Clare have come forward to share their memories of the visit of former US Ambassador Jean’s Kennedy Smith’s visit to Killaloe in July 1995. It emerged this week that the family roots of John F Kennedy’s youngest sister go all the way back to Killaloe and to former High King of Ireland, Brian Ború. A recent Clare Champion article on Mrs Kennedy Smith’s trip to the twin communities of Killaloe and Ballina has prompted more locals to recall their encounter with the former ambassador. Killaloe resident Naoise Lawlor, his daughter, Saoirse and his wife’s uncle, Donal O’Riain, were some of the people who managed to be photographed with the former US Ambassador after she had officially opened the Feile Brian Ború festival in 1995. US ambassador’s visit to Clare

US Ambassador Kevin O’Malley is paying a visit to Clare next Monday. Ambassador O’Malley will have lunch with Shannon Chamber of Commerce on the day. Meanwhile, US consular officials will be in Shannon on Thursday, November 12 to provide specific services for American citizens in the area. In a statement, the US Embassy said representatives from the US Embassy will be providing consular services in Shannon on the day in the Radisson Park Inn, Shannon Airport. “During the outreach, we will be accepting US passport applications, Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) applications and performing notary services,” a statement from the US Embassy explained. US citizens wishing to schedule an appointment for the outreach day in Shannon should send an email to Dublinoutreach@state.gov by next Tuesday at 3pm. People should include their name, telephone number and email address and which service is required (passport/CRBA/notary). The US Embassy Dublin Consular Section will then make contact with available appointment times.

US Ambassador lavishes praise on Shannon

Shannon Airport has been praised by recently appointed US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley for its key role in supporting the continuing and strong US multi-national presence in the West of Ireland. Speaking on Tuesday, while on an official visit to the airport, where he met members of its executive and board, Ambassador O’Malley said that having a vibrant airport on the western seaboard with direct links to the US is critical for shared prosperity between the region and multi-nationals. Ambassador O’Malley said, “Literally all of the businesses, the US multi-nationals and those from other countries that are situated in this region, need an airport that can service their connectivity requirements. “These are large companies doing a great job in Ireland, employing Irish people and participating in helping both sides of the Atlantic share in a great prosperity.
