Kilkenny end Clare’s 3 in a row dream

Kilkenny 2 Clare 1 Clare’s dream of a third successive Oscar Traynor title die at Frank Healy park in Doora this afternoon when a lively Kilkenny side emerged as deserving winners. With extra time looking likely, Kilkenny struck for what proved to be the winning goal when Emmett Nugent outpaced the Clare defence before cracking home the winner to the roof of Barry Ryan’s net. The Kilkenny player picked up a yellow card when he removed his jersey as he celebrated what proved to be the winning score. While the visitors enjoyed the major share of possession in the opening half, it was Clare who came closest to scoring. Just after the half hour mark Dave McCarthy’s effort rebounded off the crossbar with the Kilkenny defence beaten while earlier Gary O’Connell had his effort saved by the Kilkenny goalie Owen Wall. Clare 1 Dublin AUL 0 Clare’s drive for a third successive Oscar Traynor inter league junior soccer title moved a step further at Frank Healy park in Doora this afternoon when they recorded a hard earned victory over a fancied AUL side from Dublin The decisive goal came in the final minute of normal time when Irish junior international Eoin Hayes applied the finish, Earlier he had seen his penalty attempt well saved by the visiting goalkeeper Lee Murphy. A near galeforce wind blew directly down the field towards the goals at the road side of the grounds and this made things difficult for the players. Clare played with the aid of the wind in the opening half but visiting goalie Murphy got little to do. Clare 6 West Cork 2 Oscar Traynor title holders Clare have made winning start in defence of the title when they overcame West Cork at Frank Healy park this Saturday evening. The home side got off to a great start and were three goals to the good by the fourteenth minute which left the visitors with a huge task on their hands Irish junior international Eoin Hayes opened the scoring after just four minutes an dhe doubled the home side’s advantage in the eleventh minute after he was put through by Eoin Hayes. Hayes then turned provided as his break created the opening which saw Gary O’Connell score the home side’s third Twenty minutes later Hayes was involved again as he created the opportunity which led to Dave McCarthy finding the net. Hayes’s strike keeps Traynor title in Clare

Clare League 1 Inisowen league 0 An Eoin Hayes strike in the third minute of the second half helped Clare to soccer history at Maginn park in Buncrana this afternoon. In winning, Clare retained this inter league title for the first time in their history on a day when Hayes’ fellow Irish international Stephen Kelly was named as the team manager. Kelly was outstanding in a magnificent defence which dominated, particularly in the final ten minutes when they were under huge pressure as the home side piled on pressure in search of an equaliser The second half was particularly entertaining with chances at both ends. Clare 1 Roscommon 1 Title holders Clare are through to the quarter finals of the Oscar Traynor inter league junior soccer competition having sealed their place in the last eight with this draw with Roscommon at Frank Healy park this afternoon. The win also means that Clare are unbeaten in competitive action in 2016, something which has pleased their manager Donie Garrihy. For much of this afternoon’s game, Clare struggled and a share of the spoils didn’t look likely as the visitors dictated matters. Roscommon came to Ennis needing at least a draw to progress to the knock out stage of the competition. They took the lead midway through the opening half when Ronan Curran drilled the ball low past Barry Ryan in the Clare goal. Home venue for Clare in Oscar Traynor semi-final

Clare have secured a home venue for the semi-final of the Oscar Traynor inter league junior soccer competition. On the weekend of March 19/20, the Donie Garrihy managed Clare league side will entertain either the Donegal League or the North East league who play their quarter final tie on this Sunday in Letterkenny. The draw was made at the AUL complex in Dublin on Wednesday night at half time in the quarter final tie between the Leinster senior league and the AUL, a tie won by the Leinster side after a penalty shootout. Clare manager Donie Garrihy and coach Denis Hynes were present at the draw and Clare were first out of the hat. “I am delighted that we have a home tie. This is an All-Ireland semi-final and having home advantage gives an opportunity to the football family in Clare to come out and support the team and watch the best players in the league represent their county”, commented …
