WATCH: Clare actress takes leading role in latest Star Wars show

ENNIS actress Denise Gough has taken off to a galaxy far, far away having joined the Star Wars universe in her latest role. The multi-award winning actress is starring in Andor the latest TV show in the Star Wars franchise which debuted this week on Disney Plus. Denise plays Dedra Meero, a high-ranking Imperial officer in the show which is a spin-off prequel series to the hit film ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. The show sees the return of Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the much-loved character from 2016’s Rogue One, with the trailer depicting Denise’s villainous character hell bent on his capture. This isn’t the first time that Denise has featured in a show on Disney plus, with the three part ITV drama Too Close with Emily Watson also streaming on the channel. She is also an acclaimed stage actress winning two Olivier Awards for her roles in People, Places & Things and Angels In America on Broadway.

Star Wars Fans to Storm Scariff?

PEOPLE who Google Scariff from now on could be directed to a galaxy far, far away as a planet with the same name is to feature in the eagerly-anticipated Star Wars: Rogue One film. Filming for the eighth instalment of the Star Wars franchise took place in West Clare in May. It took the county by storm and it seems Clare’s association with Star Wars is set to continue with this latest announcement. Director Gareth Edwards revealed that the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One would feature the planet Scarif at the Star Wars Celebration event in London recently. He outlined it is based on a paradise world and that they had to go to a paradise to film it. Sadly, East Clare lost out in this regard, as filming was done in the Maldives. Star Wars filming at Loop Head

STAR Wars is in Clare this week, with filming of Episode VIII taking place at Loop Head. It is sure to attract huge interest from fans of the franchise and Loop Head Lighthouse has been closed to facilitate it, while an effective no-fly zone has been established. Ger Dollard, Interim Chief Executive of Clare County Council said,”The choosing of the Loop Head Peninsula as a filming location for such a large production highlights its status as an international destination as well as its growing reputation for fantastic scenery.  Loop Head’s inclusion in this film production builds on the work done by the local community and Loop Head Tourism in promoting the area and creating a unique tourism product built around responsible and sustainable tourism.” He added, “”Clare County Council will close Loop Head Lighthouse, one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland and one of two Signature Discovery Points in County Clare along the route of the Wild Atlantic Way, from Tuesday May 17 …
