UP to now it has been a really damp squib of a championship. The gulf in class in a lot of the games has been very clear. A lot of people are saying that the winners of Cratloe and the ‘Bridge will see themselves through to the final. The big thing about Cratloe this year has been the three or four younger lads that have come in and really established themselves. Diarmuid Ryan at centre-back, Daithí Collins, Billy Connors and Rian Considine have really added to Cratloe, which they needed to do. They had become really one dimensional but now these three or four lads have spiced up the team and made them a little bit less predictable. I think the Cratloe match-ups are going to be important against the ‘Bridge. I thought they got it awfully wrong against Ballyea. National award for €2m Killaloe amenity

THE enterprise and vision that transformed unused farmland into a state-of-the-art €2 million recreational park in Killaloe has been officially recognised with a national award. Clarisford Limited scooped a runner-up award in the national Pride of Place Community Innovation category at a function in Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis on Saturday night. Members of the group from Killaloe and Ballina were presented with a statuette and a €500 cheque for displaying great community innovation. Spearheaded by former Lions and Irish rugby star, Keith Wood, Clarisford Park was set up to provide a home for Lough Derg FC, Killaloe Ballina RFC and the local scouts group. The dream of providing a new recreational area for the local community became a reality due to funding from the Keith Wood Foundation, Clare LEADER, sports capital grants and the three anchor tenants clubs, who contributed about 10% of the overall cost. PEOPLE in Ennis are being urged to get active as a new brand for the promotion of sports, leisure and recreation facilities in the town was launched this week. The new Active Ennis brand and website was officially launched on Monday and according to Michael Byrne of Acton BV website developers, the www.activeennis.ie site is already proving to be a success with more than 1690 visitors to the site in the past month. He explained that the website, with details of six facilities under the Active Ennis brand, not only provides information but also acts as a promotional tool. Speaking at the launch he said, “It’s a real thrill to be a part of trying to tell people what’s out there, here in Ennis.” Mayor of Ennis Mary Coote-Ryan joined community representatives and members and officials of Clare Local ­Authorities at the launch of the Active Ennis brand and website.
