RUGBY: Considine named in Ireland squad for crunch World Cup matches

CLARE’S Eimear Considine has been named in Ireland’s squad for three crucial games that could see them qualify for a place at Rugby World Cup 2021, reports Ivan Smyth. Considine crossed the whitewash twice when Ireland defeated Wales 45-0 in the opening round of this year’s Six Nations campaign, cementing her place in Adam Griggs’ squad. Considine returns to full-back for Ireland in Six Nations opener

HEAD Coach Adam Griggs has named Clare’s Eimear Considine at full-back in his Ireland Match Day 23 to face Wales in Saturday’s Women’s Six Nations game in Cardiff. Considine returns to number 15 as one of the three changes in personnel from the victory over Italy last time out. Ireland will be captained by Ciara Griffin in the opening game of their 2021 Championship campaign at Cardiff Arms Park (Kick-off 5pm, live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player), with Griggs’ starting XV showing three changes to the side that beat Italy at Energia Park last October. Commenting on his selection, Head Coach Griggs says the competition for places within the squad has intensified in recent weeks as the squad stepped up their preparations at the IRFU High Performance Centre. “We are extremely confident in the squad we have selected,” he said. “We have had a great deal of time to prepare together and this group of players have earned the responsibility …

Scariff rugby to line out indoors

East Clare is to benefit from a state-of-the-art 4G IRFU standard indoor rugby pitch, the first of its kind in the county, after Scariff Rugby Club got the green light from Clare County Council to develop the playing facility. The only other pitch of its kind in the locality is the 3G pitch at the University of Limerick North Campus and the club said the development will benefit the entire community, as well as help grow its rugby base. Vice-president of Scariff Rugby Club Michael Madden outlined the club’s plans for the indoor facility. “It’ll be community based, so it will be available for everybody because we want to make it so that anyone can have the use of it. It will be the first of its kind in Clare. It’s the biggest shed you can build with internal structures, so it will be 40m by 20m and it will have a viewing stand going along by the pitch. There …
