Cocaine seizure in Kilkishen

A quantity of cocaine was recovered by gardaí during a search of a house in the Kilkishen area last Friday. Gardaí carried out a search under warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act in a house and during the course of this search the drug, with an approximate value of €2,300, was recovered. Gardai in Clare have also reported since Monday of last week seven incidents of possession and one of cultivation or manufacture of drugs were detected. A total of 33 searches were carried out from Monday, April 20 to Monday, April 27.

Missing teenager believed to be armed

A 19-year-old, believed to be armed with a gun, has gone missing from his home in Ennis. The teenager’s worried family are appealing for him to come home. Jack Dinan has been missing since Tuesday morning and gardai in Ennis are asking for the public’s help in finding him. Gardai have advised that members of the public should not approach him, but instead that they should contact the gardai if they see him. He was last seen at his home on Considine Road in Ennis at approximately 10am on Tuesday. He is 6ft tall, slim build with black hair. He wears a tooth brace on his upper teeth. Jack may have been wearing a grey hoodie top, grey spot camouflaged jacket when he left home. He may be in possession of a green rucksack. Search called off as body found in Salthill

Gardaí have confirmed the search for a Belfast man missing in North Clare since earlier in the week has been called off following the discovery of a body in Galway. The search for the 22-year-old man from Belfast, who has been missing since Monday afternoon, was stood down following the discovery of a body near Salthill in Galway on Wednesday evening. Drone technology had been deployed during the week in the search for the 22 year-old who was reported missing after he failed to return to his tour bus which had stopped at Ballyreen, on the Wild Atlantic Way, between Fanore and Lisdoonvarna, at the designated time of departure. Volunteers from the Doolin coastguard responded when the alarm was raised around 2.30pm and they conducted a sea search. Search resumes in Bunratty for missing man

Searches are to resume this morning for a man missing in the Bunratty area since Saturday. Gardaí have expressed concerned for the well being of the man in his late 50’s, originally from the Bunratty area but living in Sixmilebridge, who was last seen on Saturday. Volunteers from Bunratty Search and Rescue and locals mounted a search on Saturday evening and they were joined on Sunday morning by the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter. Volunteers walked the banks of the Ratty River as the operation focused on the river and surrounding waterways. The search also involved Gardaí, the Killaloe, Kilkee and Doolin units of the Irish Coast Guard, Clare Civil Defence and Kilrush RNLI. The Limerick Land Search Team have also been assisting in the search.

Body recovered in search for missing student

The search for missing Ennis law student, Michael Bugler has been called off after a body was recovered from the sea near Ardfry Point in Oranmore this afternoon. Gardaí say an unidentified body was spotted about 20 metres from shore by a search party looking for the missing man. Twenty year old Michael Bugler, an NUI Galway student, had not been seen since Friday, December 18 in the Quay Street area of the city. Since his disappearance, gardaí and hundreds of people have been engaged in daily searches in the Galway area for the missing student. In a post of Facebook later that evening, Michael sister Laura said the family are “relieved to finally have Michael home”. She added, “On behalf of myself, my family and Michael’s friends I’d like to thank you all for your help and support over the last three weeks. Thankfully we are so relieved to finally have Michael home today”.

Quilty man’s body recovered from sea

A THREE-day search for missing 19-year-old Quilty man, Stephen Mungovan, concluded on Wednesday, when his body was located by Irish Navy divers in the waters off Spanish Point. He was last seen early on Monday morning and gardaí were contacted at around 11am that day. “The body was located, on the Caherrush side of Spanish Point, by naval divers just before 4pm on Wednesday. He was returned to the slipway in Seafield and was transferred to Limerick,” Martony Vaughan, officer in charge of the Irish Coastguard Unit in Kilkee, told The Clare Champion. “There was a major push for the last three days by Kilkee and Doolin Coast Guard Units, the gardaí, Rescue 115 from Shannon, while naval divers arrived on scene on Tuesday. There was also a major effort from Kilkee and Burren Sub Aqua Clubs, Clare Civil Defence and several hundred members of the local community also took part in searches over the last few days,” Mr Vaughan …

Injured surfer taken to hospital

A surfer who dislocated his knee when he lost his footing on a slippery pathway is recovering from his injury at University Hospital Limerick. The incident in Lahinch occurred late Thursday evening when the Doolin Coast Guard team was tasked by MRSC, Valentia. The surfer was returning to shore when he lost his footing on a pathway and dislocated his knee. The team assembled and set up the climbing equipment. The HSE Ambulance Service was also tasked and arrived on scene a short time later. Two climbers descended with a stretcher and the injured surfer was treated for pain and shock and his leg was splinted. He was then hauled to the top and taken to the waiting ambulance. Meanwhile, the Irish Coast Guard Unit at Killaloe were involved in separate emergency incident the previous night when a woman in her 60’s, who had been walking in the Silvermines Hills in Tipperary with her husband, lost her way. Body recovered from River Shannon

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Shannon near Ardnacrusha following a 12-hour long search and rescue operation. Emergency Services say the body is that of a man in his 50’s who was reported missing yesterday (Thursday) evening and was reportedly seen entering the water near Clonlara. The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, backed up by gardaí, fire service personnel and ambulance crews, last night conducted a search of a section of the River Shannon and the riverbank between Blackwater and Clonlara.
