Clare fall flat away to Galway

Galway 3-13 Clare 1-11 THE Clare footballers were emphatically beaten by Galway in Salthill on Sunday afternoon, in what was their first defeat of the 2017 NFL division 2 league season. In a game dominated by an exceptionally strong wind and torrential second half rain, Clare conceded three goals, having let in none in their opening games against Derry and Down. Goals from Eamon Brannigan and Shane Walsh helped Galway to build a 2-8 to 0-5 interval advantage. Too often Galway players broke from deep with no Clare player tracking. Clare needed to start the second half with a couple of scores but instead Johnny Heaney and Barry McHugh pointed for Galway, who now led by 11 points. A Keelan Sexton goal, set up by Cian O’Dea, gave Clare brief hope but nine second half wides, cost them. Body of retired man located

The body of a man found on the shoreline at Aughinish, Kinvara on Sunday evening last been identified as an 86-year-old retiree who was last seen near Salthill on June 17. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow (Thursday) at Limerick Regional Hospital. On Sunday, gardaí in Gort received a report that the body of a male was found washed up on the rocks at Aughinish, Kinvara. When they went to the scene, they found the body. A local doctor was called and he was pronounced dead at 10pm at scene.

Garda Alert: Missing Galway girl

Gardaí at Salthill in Galway have renewed their appeal for information in tracing the whereabouts of 15-year-old Yulissa Stoica. Yulissa is missing since 2pm on Good Friday from Ballymoneen Road, Knocknacarra. She is described as being 5’ 7’’ tall, of slight build, with long brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who has seen Yulissa or who can assist in locating her is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
