Herd is brewing up a storm in the west

IT’S A far cry from the world of European finance to the buzz of the brewery, but Maeve Sheridan has made the change with ease. She left behind her day job in banking in Luxembourg to go into business with her brother, Michael Eustace, a civil engineer by profession. Today, along with Bridger Kelleher their brewer, the trio at Western Herd is brewing up a storm, with more craft beers than ever and a newly-refurbished and extended premises in Kilcloher.  Like hundreds of small family businesses the length and breath of Ireland, Western Herd came up against unprecedented obstacles during the pandemic. HSE Spends €300,000 on Scariff Health Centre Upgrade

THE total cost of refurbishing the Scariff Health Centre (SHC), which closed recently, is about €300,000, according to the Mid-West HSE. The HSE has confirmed the SHC will close for between six to eight weeks to accommodate a major refurbishment. Services will be relocated to Tulla Health Centre, Broadford Health Centre and Scariff Medical Centre for the duration of these works. Responding to Clare Champion queries, the Mid-West HSE estimated the total cost of the refurbishment to Scariff Health centre is approximately €300,000. The regional health authority also confirmed the main contractor carrying out this work is James Malone Construction Ltd, Ballybeg, Ennis. Services will be offered in a number of facilities by public health nurses or clinicians to their clients in Tulla, Scariff and Broadford. Cusack Park for €2.5m refurb?

Seven years after a proposed move to a greenfield site came unstuck, Clare GAA is set to lodge plans for an estimated €2.5m refurbishment of its spiritual home, Cusack Park. At the end of 2007, Clare GAA clubs voted by 61 votes to eight to sell Cusack Park to the Aisling Chiosóg consortium, led by Bernard McNamara, Noel Connellan and Sean Lyne, and move to Doora. The sale price for Cusack Park was €84.4 million, a fee that would fund a new state-of-the-art stadium, with expanded capacity, a couple of miles away on the Quin Road. The plan for Cusack Park was to develop it into a major town centre retail development, at a cost of some €350 million. However, the plans hit a major stumbling block when members of Ennis Town Council rejected re-zoning Cusack Park for a commercial development.
