Pharmacy staff robbed at knife point

Staff were left traumatised after a lone male, armed with a knife, entered the Clarecastle Pharmacy and took a small amount of cash. The incident occurred around 11am last Wednesday morning and the robber left the pharmacy on foot in the direction of Clarecastle village.  Investigating gardaí have issued an appeal for the public’s assistance is trying to identify the robber. “We are asking anyone who may have seen this man around the village of Clarecastle or entering or leaving the pharmacy or anyone who has dash cam footage to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100,” a garda spokesperson said.

Clare MABS busy as ever

CLARE MABS is currently assisting more than 100 clients in late-state mortgage arrears, with a further 110 mortgage arrears clients also being helped by the money advice service in the county. Details of the supports MABS is offering throughout Clare was revealed at a presentation to Clare County Council’s Social Development Strategic Policy Committee. In relation to late-stage mortgage arrears, the results have included five cases where restructuring or long-term solutions have been approved; 11 cases in trial test periods, where, if successful, a long-term arrangement will be considered by the lender; 12 cases awaiting decisions and 10 clients referred for personal insolvency arrangements. The meeting heard that MABS runs a court mentor scheme, providing advice and support with an increase in the numbers of clients availing of the service in recent years. Conway calls for better ATM facilities

Better ATM facilities are needed in the popular tourist areas in the county, Fine Gael senator Martin Conway has said. The Ennistymon senator has also sharply criticised the banks’ management of ATM facilities in North and West Clare over the busy summer period. Senator Conway said: “Last weekend was one of the busiest weekends of the year for many tourism areas particularly County Clare as visitor numbers flocked to our tourist attractions at the Cliffs of Moher and along the Wild Atlantic Way. “Numbers continue to grow this week with the ever popular Fleadh Cheoil taking place in Ennis. “When people visit our area they like to spend money and we encourage them to do so, but unfortunately they were unable to access cash facilities as all ATMs were out of service in North and West Clare for most of the weekend. “This happens on a regular basis and is unacceptable for local people, but it also severely impacts the …

Councillors distribute €50k at ‘secret’ meeting

CLARE County Council is to seek legal advice on the status of a behind-closed-doors in-committee meeting, held by West Clare county councillors, at which €50,000 of public money was allocated to two disability projects in Kilrush and Kildysart. Both projects were granted €25,000 and details of the meeting and the decision made at it only emerged publicly at a West Clare Municipal District meeting this week.Since then, Clare County Council has said they are not in a position to release the minutes of the in-committee meeting until they receive “legal clarification on the status of the minutes”. At Tuesday’s meeting, Councillor Richard Nagle, who was unable to attend the contentious meeting on October 20, described the holding of the meeting as “reprehensible and regrettable”. He queried why the meeting was held in private with the media absent. “Why was that meeting held in-committee? It was an issue deciding on the allocation of public money,” he stated. Clare family pick up €4.4 million Lotto win

A CLARE family have today collected a Lotto jackpot of €4,433,754, won in last Saturday night’s draw. The family, who do not wish to be identified, declared themselves ‘shocked and stunned’ after winning the jackpot. They said that they do not have any immediate plans for their millions, but are looking forward to making the most of their good fortune. The winning ticket was a €4 quick pick that was bought at Reddan’s in Sixmilebridge last Friday.
