Inchiquin Lake still out of bounds

While the drinking water restrictions which applied to Kildysart, Coolmeen, Corofin and Ruan were lifted over the weekend, there is disquiet in the North Clare area as Inchiquin Lake still remains out of bounds. Clare Council, in consultation with the HSE, said the lake, a huge amenity attraction, close to Corofin, “remains closed to the public as is not suitable for recreational purposes. Signage has been erected notifying the public of the ongoing closure at the lake.” On August 14, approximately 1800 customers were advised, as a precautionary measure, that water in Corofin town and its environs, Ruan village and the area served by the Killeen Group Water Scheme was not suitable for drinking due to the presence of an algal bloom in Inchiquin Lake. Clare County Council has explained how customers in the affected area are now being provided with an alternative supply via the Dysart-Toonagh Group Water Scheme and Ennis Public Water Supply Scheme.
