A BID has been made to have the local authority take over a sewage treatment plan in Kilmurry so that lands in the village might not be dezoned for development. A motion was tabled by the Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe Municipal District, Councillor Alan O’Callaghan, calling for the local authority to take over the plant for the Ballymulcashel housing estate. “I have talked to a builder,” he told the November district meeting. “Some years ago, a pilot project was undertaken and work done and a whole new system put in. The plant is brand new and fully funded. It is unfortunate that it is still in private ownership. We may need to take it on, or Irish Water won’t entertain it. THE STAGE is set for the return of the Kilmurry Harvest Festival which runs from this Thursday, August 4,  to Sunday next.  Proceedings get underway with a Quiz Night at the Pumphouse Bar on Thursday evening from 9pm. This is a table quiz for teams of four, at a charge of €20 per table. Haulie Hannon will be the Quiz Master.  Those with an eye for style will be blown away by Friday night’s fashion show, also taking place at the Pumphouse. That gets underway at 8pm. The looks have been put together by High Street Fashion, Freya, CD2 and more. Hair and makeup for models will be looked after by Flair Hair Salon, with music from Devanney’s Goats.  This year’s harvest festival will put a focus on health and wellbeing and Saturday will provide opportunities to get out and about in the fresh air. GARDAI are appealing to the public for information in relation to an aggravated burglary that occurred at a house in Drumullen, Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge, last Sunday. At approximately 4.30pm, three men armed with what is believed to be a knife and an iron bar, entered the house and tied up three of the occupants. One occupant of the house was assaulted during the incident. A number of personal items were taken from the property. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to come forward. They are also appealing to anyone who was in the area of Drumullen, Kilmurry, between 4.00pm and 5.15pm on 14th March 2021, to contact them. Any road users who were in the area at this time and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí. THE foundation stones for a twinning arrangement between Sixmilebridge and Nort-sur-Erde were firmly put in place this weekwhen a delegation from the French town, led by their mayor, Yves Dauvé, visited the Clare village. Strong bonds were forged between the two communities after the Sixmilebridge Twinning Committee extended the hand of friendship to the visiting delegation, by treating them to an action-packed weekend of culturally-themed events. The party of 10, led by Mayor Dauvé, arrived on Wednesday evening and were welcomed by the Sixmilebridge Twinning Committee, headed by chairman Gerald McErlain, at a reception in The Mill Bar. Once introductions were made, the parties settled into an informal and relaxed evening, with an exhibition of set dancing by the children attending classes in an adjoining room. THE new six seat Killaloe Electoral Area has seen two changes to the current makeup with the election of one newcomer, Kilmurry man Alan O’Callaghan (FF), and the return of Killaloe’s Tony O’Brien (FF). The four returning for a consecutive term are O’Callaghan’s Mills man Joe Cooney (FG), Pat Hayes (FF), Michael Begley (NP), and Pat Burke (FG). Alan O’Callaghan’s election came as a surprise to many as it was expected that former county councillor Colm Wiley’s son Liam Wiley would take the surplus Fianna Fáil vote in the region. However, the Kilmurry man netted 140 more first preference votes than Liam Wiley. Although both continued to climb the story was all but told when the majority of Niamh O’Brien’s (FN) votes were distributed in the fifth count to O’Callaghan.
