Body Of Young Man Recovered After Killaloe Tragedy

  The body of a young man has been recovered from the River Shannon in Killaloe on Wednesday evening following a major multi-agency search and recovery operation. It is understood a 19 year-old man from Limerick City fell from a jet-ski into the water, drifted for a while and then went underwater close to the ESB Mill Yard near an area known locally as Between the Waters. There are unconfirmed reports that other people on the jet-ski managed to swim ashore to safety. The young man was recovered by the Killaloe Ballina Search and Recovery Dive Unit at 6.45pm and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following early enquiries, An Garda Síochána are currently treating this matter as a tragic accident. Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked at 5.05pm on Wednesday afternoon and launched two vessels -a D-class and Rib in the lake at around 5.25pm. Killaloe Coast Guard Tasked To Tackle Speeding Jet Skis

    Jet ski operators, who drive at excessive speed on Lough Derg, are putting the lives of swimmers at risk, Killaloe Coast Guard has warned. Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked to assist local gardai deal with jet skis being operated at dangerous speeds near Killaloe Bridge on Monday and Tuesday. A number of vessels were requested to return to the relevant slipways and the owners were spoken to by Gardai. A Coast Guard spokesman told the Clare Champion that some jet ski operators were driving at speed of up to 60 kilometres an hour near Killaloe Bridge in a speed limit area of about five kilometres. He said some jet skis were doing “doughnuts”, which is akin to doing a hand break turn on the water, which in turn creates a backwash that causes issues for boats being knocked against jetties and swimmers. Gardaí seize suspected drugs worth €52,000 in South-East Clare 

  Gardaí have seized more than €50,000 worth of suspected cannabis in East Clare under Operation Tara following two separate searches on Thursday. Shortly before 4pm on Thursday, Killaloe Gardai assisted by members of the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a premises at O’Brien’s Bridge. Suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value in excess of €45,000 was seized. A man in his late twenties was arrested at the scene, and was subsequently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, 1996. He has since been charged in connection with this seizure and will appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Friday at 6pm. Meanwhile, shortly after 6.30pm Gardaí conducted a separate search operation at a house in Bridgetown, in South-East Clare. Killaloe crash victim dies from injuries

The occupant of a vehicle which was involoved in a crash near Killaloe last week has died in hospital from his injuries. The fatal traffic accident occurred between 4.05am and 4.12am on Tuesday morning, November 7 last in the townland of Cloonfadda which is not too far from Clarisford on the Killaloe to Limerick Road. The car contained five occupants which were all injured in the crash and removed to University Hospital Limerick. Unfortunately one of the occupant’s injuries were so severe that he later died. Gardai in Killaloe are investigating the circumstances surrounding this accident and are appealing for information from any person who may have witnessed the accident or who has any information concerning this car and its occupants either before or after the accident.

Gardaí praised for tracing Mountshannon cattle rustler

EAST Clare gardaí and the Department of Agriculture were today [Thursday] commended for what was described as “without question the most outstanding piece of police work” in a cattle rustling case. Remarkably the comments were made by the defence counsel for Padraig O’Brien, (42), of Magherigh, Mountshannon who pleaded guilty at Ennis Circuit Criminal Court to 15 counts of theft offences relating to the animals worth €17,000. The offences involved the theft of five in-calf heifers from Bohatch, Mountshannon between January 17 and 18, 2015; the theft of six heifers from Kilrateera, Mountshannon between May 23 and 24, 2013, and the theft of four cows from Bohatch between December 8 and 9, 2013. Gardaí and the Department of Agriculture used DNA testing to trace the stolen cattle through their progeny providing links back to O’Brien. Presiding Judge Gerald Keys commended the gardaí for their “Trojan work” highlighting that this country’s system of tracing cattle is “one of the best in …

Killaloe gardai seek public’s assistance

Gardai in Killaloe are looking for the help of the public in trying to identify three males who were seen near a house in Clonlara which was broken into and an assortment of jewellery was stolen. The break-in occurred between 3pm and 4.55pm on Tuesday of last week at a house in Kildooras. One of males believed to be in his 20s was wearing a royal blue jacket while a second, in his 30s, was wearing a Northface jacket. The third was a young man in his teens. A second house nearby was also tried but no entry was gained. The jewellery stolen included two gold braclets, a 30” chain and pendant, a 24” gold chain, an 18” gold chain, an 18ct gold and diamond pendant, a gold woven bangle, a gold tie pin, a gold cameo pendant and chain, a gold and emerald pendant, a gold chain, gold cuff links and a gold charm bracelet. Gardai reiterate appeal for witnesses to accident

GARDAI in Killaloe are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic accident in which two drivers were injured, one seriously. The two-car crash occurred last Friday afternoon at 3pm at Two-Mile-Gate, on the Killaloe to Scariff road. Units of the fire brigade from Scariff and Killaloe attended the scene along with ambulances from Killaloe and Limerick City. The seriously injured female driver was stabilised at the scene before removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. Gardai in Killaloe are continuing with their investigations into the accident and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 061-620540.
