Kelly’s goal seal’s FAI quarter final spot for Newmarket

Clonmel Town 0 Newmarket Celtic 1 Newmarket Celtic are through to the last eight in the prestigious FAI junior cup thanks to a hard earned victory over a fancied Clonmel Town side at Clonmel this afternoon. The all important goal came eighteen minutes into the second half when, in a well rehearsed move, Stephen Kelly headed home from an Eoin Hayes corner. In an similar move Kelly scored against St.Michaels Tipperary in the previous round. Kelly and his central defence partner Pat Purcell were outstanding for the Clare side as well full backs David O’Grady and Darren Cullinan. By Seamus Hayes Clare 2-22 Dublin 2-20 A second man of the match performance in five days from Tony Kelly inspired the Clare hurlers to their first win in this season’s Allianz hurling league when they overcame Dublin at Cusack Park this Saturday afternoon. Outstanding in U.L’s victory in the Fitzgibbon cup final replay in mid week, the Ballyea and his Fitzgibbon cup captain David McInerney maintained that form when inspiring Clare to a merited win over Dublin in round four of the league It was a win that didn’t appear likely when the home side was reduced to fourteen men just before half time when Brendan Bugler was sent off following an off the ball incident. Kelly returns to goalkeeping duties

All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Patrick Kelly (Inagh-Kilnamona) has been recalled for this Saturday’s Qualifier clash with Wexford at Cusack Park and he will replace Donal Tuohywho filled the position in the recent Munster semi-final game against Cork. Kelly’s selection is one of two changes from the side which started against Cork. The other change is in attack where Cathal McInerney comes in for Peter Duggan. McInerney is named at corner forward in what will be an all Cratloe full forward line which also included Conor McGrath and Podge Collins Ballyea’s Jack Browne who made his senior championship; debut against Cork before being replaced by Seadna Morey, is retained at corner back.
