ENNIS Circuit Criminal Court has heard details of a catalogue of injuries sustained by a five-month-old baby at the hands of her mother. Judge Gerald Keys heard that the baby had multiple fractures, including a fractured arm and skull and healing fractures to areas on both her legs, when presented to hospital in 2015. A 22-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to the willful assault and neglect of her daughter. Garda Hilda Moloney outlined that on February 13, 2015, the baby’s mother attended a Clare GP with her daughter “in a distressed state”. She said the baby was not moving her left arm and “something must be wrong”. The GP carried out an examination and, along with the lack of movement, he noted bruising on the left elbow and some swelling. He also found fading bruising along the arm, suggesting older injuries and noted that the baby had signs that the underside of her tongue was torn. Further to this, there …

A COURT has heard more than €128,000 worth of damage was caused to Tinerana House during a burglary that “gutted” the Killaloe mansion, which is now owned by the son of Euromillions winner Dolores McNamara. It emerged that although €10,000 worth of antique light fittings and fixtures were stolen from the property, these were sold on for the nominal sum of €1,355 to a scrap metal depot. Jeffrey Lee, 44, with an address at 25 Cosgrave Park, Moyross pleaded guilty to the burglary of Tinerana House, Ballycuggeran, Killaloe on a date unknown between August 17, 2013 and September 14, 2013. A co-accused Declan Browne, 27, from Lakyle, Ardnacrusha, but who is currently living with a relative in Clonlara, pleaded guilty to handling stolen property at Clare Circle Metals, Ballysimon Road, Limerick on September 13, 2013. A CIRCUIT Court Judge has encouraged a County Tipperary man to organise a coffee morning with his neighbours in order to help repay a €63,360 debt from an unsuccessful court action taken to prevent a Traveller family from moving into the Cullenagh estate in Ballina. Brendan Maguire and four others, supported by 61 members of the Cullenagh Residents Association, took a High Court action against North Tipperary County Council to block a Traveller family moving into a €465,000 council house in the estate. They were unsuccessful in a judicial review action which was determined in May 2009. As a result of this action, Traveller couple, Charlie and Noreen O’Reilly of Cullenagh faced a legal bill connected with this action. An order for repayment of €63,360 associated with the O’Reilly’s costs was made against Brendan Maguire of Ivy Grove, Cullenagh, Ballina, County Tipperary. Mr Maguire was ordered to repay €40 per month to the Traveller couple but at Ennis Circuit Court …

A jury took over five and a half hours to find an  80-year-old former school principal guilty of indecently assaulting 11 female students over a 21-year period. The jury at Ennis Circuit Criminal Court unanimously found Patrick Barry of Well Road, Kilkee guilty on 59 counts of indecent assault against the school girls between 1964 and 1985 at Moyasta National School. Judge Gerald Keyes had directed the jury to find Barry not guilty on eight outstanding counts for legal reasons. Counsel for the State, Anthony Sammon SC, said: “It is the express wish of the complainants that Mr Barry be named.” The judge ordered that Barry be identified and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register. Judge Keyes remanded Barry on continuing bail to reappear before the court in October 28 to fix a date for sentence.
