Minister for Employment and Small Business Pat Breen has urged employers and jobseekers in Clare to find out more about Jobs Week, which runs from Monday next. During Jobs Week events are held right across Ireland, giving information about employment supports and services which are available to employers and jobseekers. In Clare there will be an information stand in the DSP Ennis office on Tuesday and in the Ennis Shopping Centre on Thursday. “Whether you’re looking for work or for a new job, services on offer include advice on applying for jobs, preparing CVs and interview skills as well as job offers. Employers also have an opportunity to find new staff from their local area,” Minister Breen said. “Unemployment has almost halved, from a peak of 15% to 8.4% today, and long-term unemployment is down to 4.4%. Clare jobseekers are being offered free education and training to develop skills and to access employment opportunities through the MOMENTUM programme. MOMENTUM is an initiative for people who are a year or more unemployed and who are looking for help to get their careers moving. SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority, is administering the programme which aims to provide eligible jobseekers with an opportunity to train for jobs in sectors of the economy that are growing and are in need of skilled employees. Courses also include work placements for participants, in order to ensure that they have an opportunity to showcase their skills and motivation with prospective employers. The courses are individually designed to encourage motivated people to work together to further their career. The courses are an opportunity to develop key skills and reveal potential in a dynamic environment.
