Jigsaw calling on people to back ‘hike for hope’

Jigsaw, the youth mental health charity, is calling on people to strap on their boots for a fundraising hike this weekend. ‘Hike for Hope’ is a virtual fundraising challenge to raise funds for Jigsaw that will take place from Friday, May 27 to Sunday, May 29. Organised in collaboration with Scout volunteers from across Ireland, Hike for Hope is free, and you can sign up online now at jigsaw.ie/hikeforhope “Young people need hope, and our help, now more than ever. We need to spread hope in our communities and show young people that their communities value and support their mental health. We’re asking the whole of Ireland to get out and about and show our young people hope by Hiking for Hope and supporting Jigsaw!” said Michelle Comer of the Hike for Hope organising team. Mental health talk with leading psychologist

AS part of their popular spring calendar of virtual events, Ennis Mental Health Association (EMHA) will present a “not-to-be-missed” evening of conversation on Thursday, May 13 with the renowned Dr Tony Bates discussing “Why Talking Helps”. A regular contributor to Brendan O’Connor’s RTÉ Radio1 programme, Dr Tony Bates is a Clinical Psychologist, who was Head of Psychology for 30 years in St James’s Hospital Dublin, and who established and directed the MSc Cognitive Psychotherapy in TCD until 2006. He founded Jigsaw, The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, in 2006 to serve young people and their mental health needs, and he was made honorary Professor of Psychology in UCD last September as a tribute to his contribution to the field. Jigsaw sets up in Mid West

An investment of approximately €700,000 per year will see Jigsaw provide a new mental health service for young people in the Mid West. News of the investment was announced by Kathleen Lynch, Minister for Mental Health, Social Care and Primary Care and recruitment of a Project Manager for the Limerick project will commence in February. Jigsaw will provide early intervention and prevention services and also help to integrate existing resources to better support youth mental health.
