Gardaí seek help to trace sex offender

Gardaí at Henry St in Limerick are seeking help in tracing convicted sex offender, Mian Mujahid Ali Shahid (commonly known as Mian Shahid) following a request for assistance from the UK Police. It is believed Mian, who is a 19 year old Pakistani national, travelled to Ireland from Scotland earlier this year. He was last seen in the Foynes areas of Limerick on August 11 last. Mian Shahid was convicted (in his absence) at Stafford Crown Court on April 13 last of two counts of sexual assault of a female (18 years of age). A warrant was issued for his arrest on April 14. On May 20, at the same court, he was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for this offence, also in his absence. “Following the receipt of a European arrest warrant, gardaí have carried out extensive enquires but have failed to establish his current whereabouts. Hotel receptionist threatend with syringe

Gardaí at Limerick are investigating a robbery which occurred at a hotel on the Dock Road, in the city earlier to day. A lone male entered the hotel reception area around 3am and threatened the male receptionist with a syringe. He demanded cash and fled the scene with a cash box. Gardaí were alerted and pursued this man along Windmill Apartments where he was arrested. The 30 year-old man is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984. No injuries were sustained during the robbery.
