Season of extremes as Banner basks in Indian summer

THE summer of 2023 was like a meal with an outstanding starter, terribly disappointing main course and a surprisingly pleasant dessert, even if it arrived a bit late. The Met Éireann report for summer 2023 showed that the weather station in Shannon had the warmest mean temperature at 16.5 degrees celsisus. But on the other hand it was also exceptionally wet, with 45% more rainfall than an average summer. Met Éireann’s summary for the season said, “Summer 2023 saw the warmest June on record on land and at sea, the wettest July on record with 17 stations having over 200% of their Long-Term Average (LTA) monthly rainfall and finished with two named storms in August that downed trees and caused flash and coastal flooding. “The season began very dry with widespread climatological dry periods up to mid-June, before breaking down with eight consecutive days of intense thunderstorm activity. Met Éireann’s annual report highlights notable Shannon records

MET Éireann’s annual report for 2022 showed Shannon’s mean temperature was 0.5 degrees above the long term average, reflecting global warming trends. According to its findings Shannon had 3% less rainfall than its long term average, while enjoying 1501 hours of sunshine, 15% above average. There were some especially notable temperatures recorded Shannon this year, including its highest July temperature on record, when 30.8 degrees was recorded. The highest August temperature on record at Shannon was also recorded (30.0 degrees) and the highest minimum temperature ever seen in Ireland during November was recorded at Shannon as the temperature never dipped below 14.9 degrees on Friday, November 14. The report stated that Ireland’s warming trend continued in 2022, and we are warming in line with the global average. Eric Trump anger at media “attacks” on Barron (11)

THE Trump family’s relationship with the American media, particularly CNN and the New York Times could not be described as convivial. However, speaking to The Clare Champion in Doonbeg this week, Eric Trump has expressed particular distaste for how elements of the American media have written or spoken about his brother Barron, who turned 11 last month. “There was an unspoken rule for years that you do not attack the (young) children of the President of the United States.
