Gardaí in a brief statement, issued on Wednesday night, confirmed that Shannon teenager Carla O’Connor had been located safe and well in Limerick city. Prior to that, she had last been seen in the vicinity of the Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle on November 25.

Gardaí in Shannon are renewing their appeal for the public’s help in tracing the whereabouts of 16-year-old Carla O’Connor. Carla was last seen the vicinity of the Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle, Limerick City at approximately 6.50pm on Wednesday, November 25 2015. Carla is 5’6″, with blue eyes, long black /red hair and has a slim build. When last seen she was wearing a navy tracksuit with a pink tracksuit top. Gardaí in Shannon are appealing for anyone who may have seen Carla or are in a position to help, to contact them on 061 365900, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Clare men and women have been encouraged by local Fine Gael TD Pat Breen to apply for one of 600 new positions available with An Garda Síochána. The recruitment campaign is now underway and applications are being accepted until January 5. The Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald formally announced on Friday the opening of a recruitment campaign for new members of An Garda Síochána next year. The 600 new gardaí, to be recruited next year, will bring to 1,150 the total number of new recruits since the reopening of Templemore in September 2014. “So far 295 new recruits have completed their training and are now are on the ground in communities nationwide as fully fledged members of An Garda Síochána. Since the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday evening, which have claimed the lives of 129 people, An Garda Síochána have been in close contact with French and other close security partners to assess any implications for Ireland. In a statement issued today (Monday),  it was outlined there is a Garda Liaison Officer attached to the Irish Embassy in Paris who has direct contact with the French authorities. “Since these events, An Garda Síochána has conducted an intelligence assessment review and on Saturday the Commissioner briefed the National Security Committee and the Minister for Justice and Equality of our threat assessment. As indicated by the Minister for Justice & Equality yesterday, the threat level in this jurisdiction remains unchanged and the threat environment in this jurisdiction at the moment can be described as one where “an attack is possible but not likely”. Preparations for the hosting of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016 in Ennis stepped up this week with statutory bodies hosting an information briefing for business people in the town. The briefing was held in advance of Comhaltas Abbey Branch submitting a formal event licence application under the statutory planning process. The application process will afford an opportunity to the wider public to comment on proposals for what will be the largest event ever staged in the town. Local gardaí have provided a contact email address (ennis_ds@garda.ie) up to November 30, where businesses can bring to the attention of the agencies any proposals or issues that might be of relevance for Fleadh 2016. “This is a major event for Ennis and it requires significant advanced planning by all involved. Crimestoppers, together with the Garda Síochána and PhoneWatch, has launched a new campaign to combat the problem of burglary. The campaign is calling on members of the public to be vigilant for suspicious activity and to make themselves aware of the straightforward measures they can take to minimize the risk of burglary. The most recent figures from the Central Statistics Office say that from mid-2014 to mid-2015 there were 28,830 burglaries reported in Ireland. This was an increase of 2,241 (8.4%) from the 26,589 burglaries reported from mid-2013 to mid-2014. Crimestoppers is advising householders that there are a number of measures that they can follow to keep their home safe and protect themselves against burglars: * Secure all windows and doors. * Light up you home and use timer switches when out. * Sign up to your local Community Alert and Neighbourhood Watch schemes. * Consider installing a monitored alarm and installing outside lights. To coincide with the October Bank Holiday, gardaí and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) are making a special appeal to drivers and passengers to ensure they use a safety belt at all times. A review of fixed charge notices issued for this offence so far in 2015 reveals that the 20-39 age groups are the ones that are failing most to use the most basic form of road safety – the safety belt. More than half (56%) of all fixed charge notices were issued to people aged 20-39. In addition, concern is also being expressed over the number of fatal incidents where it has been found that the driver or passenger had not been wearing a safety belt at the time of the collision. No safety belt was worn at the time of collision for one in three of the driver or passenger road deaths so far in 2015, significantly higher than in previous years. Nearly half of these (48%) …

More than 240 Fixed Charge Notices (FCN) have been issued to cyclists in the first two months of the introduction of the new regulations. Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe said the new regulations are helping to promote better cycling behaviour and keeping our cyclists and other road users safer on the roads. ” An Garda Síochána has indicated that between July 31 and the end of September a total of 244 fines have been issued to cyclists who have broken the law and committed one of the seven road traffic offences identified under the regulations. “Unsurprisingly, most fines have been issued for the offence of breaking a red light (144), with failure to have appropriate lighting on a bike accounting for the next highest number of fines at 44. “This measure was introduced with a view to promoting safe cycling practices and changing poor cycling behaviour and preventing needless collisions and injury on our roads.
