Clare Voters Are Likely To Reject Two Referendum Changes

Early indications suggest Clare voters have voted No in the two Referendums on Friday. In total, 98 out of the 177 boxes have been opened in the count centre at Woodstock Hotel, Ennis. The preliminary turnout is expected 45%, which is subject to change once all the votes are counted. Counting staff are currently reconciling the number of votes in every box with the number recorded by the presiding officer to make sure they tally. Staff will start counting all the votes when the reconciling process is completed. It is expected that a final result will be announced after 3pm this afternoon.       Dan Danaher

Cree company cleans up

Clean Ireland Recycling, a family-run waste management business based in Cree, has cleaned up on the awards front, winning the Kerbside Collection Service of the Year Award at the 2014 Repak Recycling Awards. Run by brothers, John and Michael O’Donoghue, Clean Ireland has a large kerbside customer base of 30,000 households and their waste management service covers Clare, Limerick, Kilkenny and South Tipperary. They have a six-bin collection system, which consists of residual bins, mixed dry recyclables, food waste, glass, grass and clothes. They accept an extended range of materials in the mixed dry recyclables bin, once they are clean and dry. The introduction of the multiple-compartment collection vehicles, which are the first of their kind in Europe, has meant that Clean Ireland only has to do fortnightly collections. This, in turn, minimises disruption to customers and lowers the carbon footprint, as well as collection costs. Family found in Cratloe Woods

A family was found in Cratloe Woods after a two-hour search involving search and rescue services last night. The Killaloe Coastguard Unit was tasked by Valentia Coastguard to respond to an emergency 999 call at 9.50 pm on Monday night from a family who had become lost disorientated in the popular South-East Clare recreational area. Within ten minutes of the pagers being activated, Killaloe Coastguard had two land search teams on route to Cratloe Woods. The Irish Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Shannon Airport was also tasked to provide assistance in the search. The two Killaloe Coastguard search teams had started searching by 10.30 pm and R115 was conducting a extensive search from air. After one hour of searching, the R115 and the two Killaloe Coastguard search teams had noting to report so the officer in charge requested more Coastguard units from Doolin and Kilkee to assist in the search operation.
