Scouts and Lions join forces ahead of Message in a Bottle launch

WHEN Maria Molloy sent out an SOS for some help with the Lions Club ‘Message in a Bottle’ there was no need for The Police! Karen Kelleher, Clare County Commissioner, stepped up and worked closely with 1st and 4th Clare Venturers(Ennis) to encourage a collaboration between them and the Ennis Lions Club project leader to prepare packages for the forthcoming Message in a Bottle Launch 2023. In return the young adults will have earned a community badge. Maria was effusive in her thanks to the young adults who made up over 500 packs for Ennis Lions Club declaring “They were really super from start to finish of this project”. Message in a Bottle is a simple idea promoted by Lions Club of Ireland. It encourages people to keep their basic personal and medical details in a common place, where, in cases of emergency, the attending service teams can easily access them. Ennis Lions auction raises more than €30,000 for Bushypark

MORE than €30,000 has been raised for Bushypark as a result of a fundraising campaign organised by Ennis Lions. When Ennis Lions Club committed to fundraise for the development project at Bushypark a full year ago they sought a project that provided a win for all stakeholders. Led by the success of their colleagues in Galway Lions they chose to undertake the mammoth task of a charity auction to be carried out online and on radio. The principle reason for this choice was that it provided an avenue that gave back to donors as well as providing great value on a broad range of desirable goods to local people. Little did they know their choice would end up being the talk of October 2022 across the county! Project team leader David Goodstein credited this WIN/WIN formula to the huge success of their recent Charity Auction during October which saw them raise a magnificent €30,343 for Bushypark. Back in March the …

Lions laud phenomenal Clare contribution to Ukraine appeal

ENNIS Lions Club has raised more than €50,000 through the “phenomenal” support of the people of Clare for an orphanage in Poland caring for displaced Ukrainian children. The funds have been raised through a variety of endeavours including a bucket collection held throughout the county in the early weeks of the invasion. Details of the local fundraising success were unveiled as Lions Clubs throughout Ireland look ahead to participation in the Lions Clubs International day in support of Ukraine Refugees and Displaced Persons on Saturday, June 11. Terence Mangan of Ennis Lions explains they were moved to do something to help those fleeing the invasion of Ukraine once news of the conflict began to emerge, and they have been overwhelmed with the response from the public. “We knew straight away that this was going to be a very serious situation because it is the first time in 80 years that we have had any kind of major war in Europe, and …

Lions Club PHEW appeal aims to bring relief to families in need

THE latest fundraising initiative by Ennis Lions Club aims to fuel support for vulnerable local families who are facing the desperate choice between being able to pay for food or heat their homes. With homes across the country benefiting from the government’s €200 energy credit the Lions Club is urging those who do not need the payment to donate it towards supporting families in need. The local chapter has launched its aptly named PHEW (Poverty, Help, Energy, Waiver) appeal to bring relief to struggling families coping with rising fuel costs. Tommy Murphy of Ennis Lions Club explains that while many people welcome the €200 rebate and it will give short-term relief for increasing costs, a lot of families do not need the payment. The Lions Club in Ennis is supporting up to 50 families locally and sees first-hand the effect that fuel poverty is having. The group hopes that those who do not need all, or even some, of the …

Remembering a loved one this Christmas

THE  Lions Club of Ennis has come together with Ennis Rotary Club in aid of Cahercalla Hospice this Christmas with the creation of a Remembrance Christmas Tree in the county capital’s Market Square. People can remember a loved on by placing a ribbon on the town’s Christmas tree in their name for a €5 donation to the charity. According to a spokesperson for the organisers, the charity fundraiser has proven very popular over the years and they are encouraging people to continue their generous support. “The Remembrance Christmas Tree is a way for people to remember a loved one. It could be a loved one who has passed away or indeed someone overseas or someone away from home this Christmas time. As well as remembering someone, the tree will also raise much needed funds for Cahercalla. Both the Lions Club of Ennis and Ennis Rotary Club have come together on this initiative and we are delighted with the support we …
